I just got my T68i and wish to use Cingular ad ISP so I can connect my Palm OS 4.1 PDA to Internet, and I never believe I will have so much trouble using this data service.
Here is what I went through today:
-- Browse to here:
http://www.cingular.com/business/data_connect
-- Saw this section and believe this is what I need:
"Data Connect enables you to connect your Cingular Wireless data capable phone to your laptop or PDA"
"Cingular Wireless as your Internet Service Provider (ISP)"
-- Called and added the baisc plan "Wireless internet" (I know it's cheapy, but I just want to try it out first)
-- During the phone call, the lady told me wireless comm will be enabled in few minutes, I just to go
http://www.mywirelesswindow.com to set it up.
-- Log on to the website, only see email/IM but did not see ANY instruction about how to setup my PDA and phone.
-- I don't really care what fancy stuff that website gives me, I JUST WANT TO USE CINGULAR AS ISP FOR MY PDA !!
-- Go back to the first page, read it carefully and found this line: "Load the Data Connect software on your laptop or PDA."
-- Spent 1 hour searching on Internet and did not find this software.
-- Spent another hour reading the documentation about my phone, figured out Cingular NEVER gives me a phone number / ID / password for the ISP service I purchased.
-- Called Cingular again asking help, the guy didn't know what service I was talking about, spent 15 mins and gave up.
My question: After I purchase this service from Cingular, how do I add a "Data Account" into my phone and start using my PDA with it?
(PS)I am in Los Angeles area.

they are not stupid. they just dont know what GPRS means. I finally was able to reach the head of tech support who as supposedly "trained" on GPRS.
So upon talkin to him, I said do you know what GPRS is. He said yes, it is exactly like wap looool.. I said and you are head of Cingular Tech Support and you also claimed you were " highly trained " in GPRS?
hehe thanks bye..
I later found out who to do it thru the google search

I don't have experience setting it up on a PDA but I do have it setup on my laptop...It was very simple for me.
1. I signed up for Wireless Internet Express ($6.99/mo)
2. I bought the Data Connectivity Kit for my phone/computer (i.e. a cable that plugs into the serial port and the setup CD)
3. I stuck the CD into my Win98-SE laptop and proceded thru the setup.
Sounds easy right? Well it can be if you deal with the "right" people...
For step #1 you can't just say to the CSR "I want Wirless Internet", you have to ask for Wireless Internet/Wireless Internet Express and tell them to also add in capability/provisioning for using your phone as a modem for data. If they don't seem to know what you are talking about ask them to transfer you to tech support or someone who knows how to add/provision your Wireless Internet for data
For step #2 you can either go to a store if you know of one that has someone knowledgable about this service and they will sell you the right product (luckily that's what I did) or, I have seen these same kits for sale on Cingular's website too.
Step #3 is pretty much a no brainer unless you are a brand newbie to computers...in which case don't expect too much "support" from Cingular cust. care!
p.s. (and this is ONLY my own personal opinion) I would suggest to "try out" the lowest W.I. Express packeage because GPRS is faster (a litlle bit at least) and doesn't use your minutes, however remember to bump the option up to allow more MB's of data if needeed!!
p.s.s. it will not go as smooth as it sounds here if your T68i was bought unlocked / not from Cingular...I'm not saying impossible I'm just saying a bit harder (again from my own personal experience but that is a loooong story). If that is the case, you'll have to scour boards like this one for the settings to manually put in your phone, frustrating yeah but not impossible.
GOOD LUCK! & hope I made sense and didn't confuse.
