I have GPRS as my prefered connection method, with time out set to "never" The blue triangle on the left hand corner is there ( above the signal strength indicator) yet, when I try to connect to internet to surf a web page, the browser 6 out of 7 times ( approx!) dials rather than uses GPRS... how do I prevent this? If I send an MMS first ( thus starting gprs connection) then the web browser will connect using GPRS... any idea's?

Sounds to me like your GPRS internet account is not set as a GPRS account.
Go to Control Panel, Connections tab, Internet Accounts. Select your GPRS account and click on EDIT. It SHOULD say GPRS under Connection Type
*Note: Most (not all) providers have different settings and WAP accounts for MMS and WAP. Check if your provider offers OTA (Over The Air) configurations, and just send an SMS to that number to receive auto-config settings.

I'm located in The City .. I have found out how to get the gprs to work all the time.. BUT latest query is.. When I'm connected via GPRS - and the globe symbol is showing, even if it's not transmitting data, I now have a symbol showing a phone handset with a red cross through it. When I click on this, it says " Calls restricted. Calls not allowed (GPRS) .. Settings" I can not believe this implies that I can't use gprs and voice cals at the same time?? My Treo 270 had no problems with this...

Control panel - Internet accounts - Other - Preferred mode - AUTOMATIC.
Your "Preferred mode" is probably set to GPRS only.... Change this to Automatic = problem solved.

Raven, but if I do this, then I'll be back to my original problem, of the internet browser dialling up a connection, rather than using GPRS ?

I think you're mixing up the settings... Follow the settings @jplacson posted, and then follow the settings I posted...
And if that doesn't work, edit your WAP ACCOUNT SETTINGS and check that the Internet account is set to match your preferred internet account(GPRS).

Raven, aha, ok now I'm there.. it was the WAP account settings were on (Vodafone) Dial up rather than the GPRS tab.
Thanks
