While we are waiting for the big Apple iPhone event later today, LG took the opportunity to fill the waiting time with the announcement of the LG Optimus LTE. The Optimus LTE is the first device in Korea to offer 4G and such a large 4.5 inch IPS display. The IPS technology improves the LCD viewing angle and while IPS at the introduction had a slower response time than TN-based consumer displays, it has evolved and today offers almost the same features as TN-displays. The company LG Display is one of the largest manufactures of IPS display for TV, monitors and smartphones and shipped 7.45 square kilometers of LCD net displays in second quarter 2011. LG Mobile has developed the new display in collaboration with LG Display. The Optimus LTE will initially only be available to Korean home market, but other markets might get it later.
