Nokia has announced the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 smartphones which are the first two models from the Finnish company to run on Windows Phone 7.5 operating system
Esato News

Looking at the Nokia naming convention, which has a scale from 100 to 900, the new Lumia 800 is defined as a high-end model by Nokia. Priced at only Euro 420, the Lumia 800 is a cheap high-end model. Nokia Lumia 800 has the exact same dimensions as the previously released Meego device Nokia N9. The Lumia 800 screen size is 3.7 inches while the N9 has a 3.9 inch display. Whereas N9 has a AMOLED Corning Gorilla Glass the Lumia 800 has a AMOLED ClearBlack technology. Nokia introduced ClearBlack last year, so the technology is not new. ClearBlack ensures that the black you see really are black which again enhances the contrast and makes the screen much easier to see in outdoor conditions with sunlight. ClearBlack prevents much of the reflection seen on conventional displays. Like Super AMOLED did for AMOLED, ClearBack displays resolves the issue with viewing difficulties in direct sunlight.NokiaN9andNokiaLumia800Looking at the two Nokia models side-by-side, it seems like the N9 and Lumia 800 model has the same display size but the lower part of the screen on the Lumia 800 has reserved some space for the three Windows Phone soft keys Back, Home and Search. The Lumia 800 has a slightly lower resolution of 480 x 800 pixels compared to the N9 with 480 x 854 pixels. We believe that 480 x 800 pixel is a requirement for running Windows Phone 7 as all currently available Windows Phone 7 models has the 480 x 800 pixel resolution regardless of display size. Apart from being the first Nokia phone running on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system, Nokia Lumia 800 is an average WP7 model if we just look at the specifications alone. A 3.7 inch display might be too small for those who has been using a 4 inch+ smartphone for a while. We haven't been able to check it out yet, but we tested the Nokia N9 a while ago, and the Lumia 800 could be a attractive device if it has the same build quality as the N9.Nokia brings some unique software feature to the Windows Phone 7 platform. In addition to Bing Maps shipped with Windows Phone, Nokia adds Nokia Drive and a link to download Nokia Maps on the Windows Marketplace. Positioning are done using A-GPS, CellID, SA-GPS and WiFi.According to Nokia, the Lumia 800 has a 8.0 megapixel CMOS sensor. But at the same time, the pixel resolution reported is 3982 x 2992, 3968 x 2224 and 3984 x 2665 for 4:3, 16:9 and 3:2 respectively. If you do the math, you'll find that this is more than 8 megapixels. Multiplying those numbers gives us 11.9, 8.8 and 10.5 megapixels. This puzzles us. The camera can record HD video in 720p quality. It also has a stabilization not only when doing still photography, but also when recording videos which is a requirement in our opinion. What we are missing from a high-end device such as the Lumia 800 is NFC and a little better batter capacity. 265 hours standby time is the worst in the class.Notice that both the Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 has support for Micro SIM which means that you not will be able to use your older SIM-card in these phones.Nokia Lumia 800 gallery

Lumia 710 has a 3.7 inch display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution and ClearBlack technology but it lacks AMOLED display. Lumia 710 is powered by the same processor as the Lumia 800. A 1.4 GHz Qualcomm SMS8255 Snapdragon CPU. It has 512 MB RAM and a 8 GB microSD memory card included in addition to 25 GB space on Microsoft's cloud storage service SkyDrive.Nokia Lumia 710 has a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, LED flash and with a focal length of 28 mm and f/2.4 aperture. It is able to record video in 720p HD quality at 30 frames per second and has image stabilization for smoother recordings.Further, the Lumia 710 offer the same social features as Lumia 800 which are Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, Twitter and YouTube. A 1300 mAh battery are claimed to power the Lumia 710 for 6.9 hours during talk and give it 400 hours standby time (GSM). We find it strange that such similar devices as the Lumia 710 and 800 have such different battery time.As usuall, Nokia offers many colour variants for their mass market models. The Lumia 710 is no exception and you can buy it with either black or white front and with the following back covers: fuchsia (red), black, yellow, white, cyan.Nokia Lumia 710 gallery

Lumia 800 ... Nokia is BACK! I really undertand the Metro philosophy and currently compared to the failing BlackBerry smartphone Nokia will quickly win back marketshare ... even against Android in the next Windows Phone update that adds similar power of user augmentation and more applications.

Amongst all the haters here on Esato against everything Nokia - even THEY must admit/submit that Stephen Elop delivered on his promise of announcing and ready to ship phones in early 2012 and actually beat it by 2mths!!

The way the reviewer talks though he would drive me nuts after a while I think he should have charged it a little before doing that. Nice device though & having already seen the camera samples it's a winner!!
