Am I the only person who doesn't like the look of this? The last phone I owned which had anything like this was the C905 -- that was the FastPort on the side of the phone, but my Satio also has it on the side and it's a very wide phone so there isn't much room in my pocket for anything else. I am thinking about getting one of the new Android phones from SE to replace my X10 mini pro, but I don't like the look of the 3.5 mm headphone jack being on the side of the phone as I can imagine it would cause problems in my pocket and maybe destroying my headphones in a matter of months. What are people's opinions on this?

I have the arc and yes when getting it I did consider that it would fee awkward but its not much of an issue in my opinion. the C905 and satio among others that the fast port on the side but it was more awkward then the arc because it was in the middle, whereas the arcs 3.5mm jack is at the top. the headphones included also make the wire go 90 degrees of the jack so its basically like having the port at the top bar it sticks out a bit.

so yeah I so don't find it an issue when in your pocket you just have it so that the top on the phone it at the top of your pocket. I currently even use headphones without the 90 degree wire and find it fine to use. hope this helps your decision making, can't recommend the arc more!

The reason for that is the format of the jack on Sony headphones.

I don't want to use Sony Ericsson headphones! But thanks, adsada and MFire -- your replies were very helpful. I'm still not too sure about it, though. I was thinking about getting the Xperia Pro but I just can't get over this headphone jack placement, plus I will maybe have my Satio in my pocket at the same time (until I am confident that I don't need it anymore )

Don't think that is why, most other SE phones have the port at the top. In the arc's case it was placed on the side because of the aim to make it a thin phone, so you do sacrifice features because of this, like the FF camera The Xperia Play has one on the side but I think this is more to do with when you're playing games.

Hmmmm, well like tobias84 says you could go bluetooth, buy something like the MW600 Where you can still use your own headphones. Check out other phones, the neo, pro and ray all have the port at the top and the xperia mini pro? Or you could just look at another brand all together

The Xperia Pro has its headphone jack on the side. I'm not interested in using a Bluetooth accessory just to use my headphones!

Fussy! You could always wait for the 2012 line up if it has to be

Actually just checked, if you want to use your own headphones get something like this problem solved! When you use a right angled headphone jack on the arc, it honestly is just like it being on the top of the phone and isn't that awkward like the fastport on the C905 (which I agree was stupid)

Well waiting was the original plan, and I tried using something similar to that accessory before and it actually affected the sound quality quite a bit. And yes, I am fussy; I like the best in technology... which probably raises the question of why I'm opting for SE in that case!
