Motorola announced yet another smartphone during
CES this week. The
Motorola Droid 4 is, like some of the other CES Moto announcements, an upgrade from the previous year model. The Droid 4 is the successor to Droid 3 which was released just 7 months ago. Droid 4 is a QWERTY model aimed at the business segment. At least that is what Motorola promoting in their press release. A decent QWERTY keyboard is of course not only for business users and those doing frequent texting should also consider a Droid 4.
Compared to the Droid 3, the Droid 4 has gained some weight with its 178.9 gram. Quite heavy for a 2012/2011 smartphone. It's the same league as the huge 5.3 inch Samsung Galaxy Note, the older Droids, HTC Desire Z and Nokia E7. The list of improvements over the older Droid 3 is:1.2 GHz dual core processor - Droid 3: 1 GHz dual core720p front cameraIncreased battery to 1785 mAh1 GB RAM (from 512 MB)And of course the main reason why Motorola has chosen to release an upgraded Droid 4: LTE B13 4G network supportImproved QWERTY keyboard with LED edge-lit keys
Motorola Droid 4 and all other smartphones announced at CES will be shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Droid 4 will receive an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of 2012.
One thing we noticed with the Droid 4 specifications was the exceptional low standby time. At only 205 hours standby time is follows a Motorola history of being the worst in the class. The new
Motorola Droid Razr Maxx being
an exception.
