Nokia is the most trusted brand in the worlds second largest country. Last year Nokia had to settle for the second place in India, but managed to get back on top this year

According to a recent report published by India Times, Nokia has conquered back the first place in being the most trusted brand in India. Strangely enough, four out the top five companies in the list made by Brand Trust Report 2012 consisted of mobile phone manufactures. LG got the third place and it was followed by Samsung and Sony. In the list from 2011, Nokia held the second position while the three previous years Nokia was on top.Being the most trustworthy brand in India is of course and advantage when the Finnish company aims to sell entry level smartphones to the "
next billion" people. Nokia earlier this month bought the company
Smarterphone which makes mobile OS for entry level devices. The Smarterphone OS could very well be the OS running on Nokia's upcoming feature phones for sale in India.In specific categories, Google and HP was the leaders in the Internet and Technology categories.The Brand Trust Report 2012 is quoted by several large Indian newspapers so we guess it is a valid source. The firm doing the research said "The research is conducted with 2718 "influencer" respondents from 15 cities, generating more than two million data-points from 12.000 hours of research."

statistics are so easy manipulated... I've googled but can't really find a definition for an "influencer" and already the name suggests some kind of biased persona but even 2718 in a population of 1.2billion doesn't really sound like any reliable source... or did I misunderstand this news is some way

there is also the factor of economy where Nokia sell cheap phones in India whereas other manufacturers sell their standard fare... its obvious that cheaper affordable brands will be more favoured in less developed economies and while that might make for a "trusted brand" it doesn't really make for a real comparison point between manufacturers who might sell more expensive products in the same territory.

Well,you say less developed economies but India is an emerging super power the largest democracy in the world but like China has a massive gap between rich & poor.

I'm not sure about "emerging superpower" in the same scope that China has become, but I do agree with the rich/poor gap but in India I believe and my experience is that is still focussed in the lower end when it comes to mobile technology which is why Nokia is one of the few pushing phones heavily in that price point as they have alot to offer there.
the point is that this has alot to do with brand perception and hence loyalty and again... its all down to simple statistics rather than any compatitive value between countries/terratories.
but to take the topic title litteraly and without comparison, I'm sure its totally correct.

@masseur
Sure, statistics can be manipulated, but the interesting thing here is that Nokia still is regarded as one of the most trustworthy brands in India. I do not understand why 2.700 persons could be representative for the Indian population. We do not know how these 'influencers' are selected. They could be representative. How many do you think must be a part of the survey for the Trust Report to be - trustworthy

Does seem odd but I always hear of these statistics but only based on a survey of so many people. Not reliable maybe but I have heard before that Nokia is huge in India & other parts of the far east I think.

@laffen, agreed, and "how" are these 2700 selected and why should what is essentially 1 in each million people in any way considered representative? that is my question.
but as I also tried to acknowledge... there is variance based on economy and if a manufacturer sells products at a lower price in a generally poor economy, it is likely they will be more "popular"
