Do you use Sony Ericsson
PC Companion?

Recently I was greeted with the message:
PC Companion update needed
You need to update to the latest version of PC Companion to be able to use it.
Click Update now to get the update.
I don't know about anyone else, but I find it a terrible user experience to be at the mercy of an internet connection just to be able to use my device with the computer.
I am also highly annoyed that when downloading PC Companion I have to make additional downloads when activating the different bits of it to work. I constantly have to be online just to use it and activate those bits.
Questions:
1) Is there a standalone installer that doesn't require ANY additional download to use the features inside PC Companion once you've downloaded the setup file?
2) Is there a way to turn forced updates off, so I can't be 'stuck' in this situation in the future (held to ransom by Sony Ericsson).
3) Failing that, should I just be using something else? In the past I used
MyPhoneExplorer. Is that still the go?
