Howdy all. Long time lurker, but was too lazy to register to participate in discussions
I've been following the Sony mobile scene for a while and with all of the recently announced Sony handsets, I find myself with a bittersweet sort of feeling. While I do like the phones, I feel that the design of these phones is all over the place, and the currently listed flagship phone the Xperia S is lacking. For example we have the aluminum body of the P which is deserving of a flagship phone, and we have the multi-coloured bar on the U, which neither of the other handsets have. My guess is that Sony did this so that each handset had its own unique flavour, but it just winds up leaving you wanting on some level. Now from what I've read on the matter, the white magic display of the P is restricted in size due to technological limitations right now, so that can at least be forgiven for not being on the flagship handset. And yeah, I know higher end models are coming out later, but for this very moment, the S is the flagship, which is why I'm addressing it as such.
Anyways, I figured why not create a thread to let people dream about what sort of technologies they'd realistically like to see in some of the phones coming out later this year. Here's my list:
-Screen: Hopefully white magic tech will advance to the point where they can at least have sizes up to 5". My desired size would be a 4.5" white magic display. While I would like to see Sonys OLED tech in action on one of their phones, I just don't think it's likely they'll be ready to do it this year. And unfortunately I don't think Crystal LED tech will scale down to phone/tablet sized displays so that seems out too
-Expandable memory: It's great that they're offering expandable memory options on the Ion, so hopefully they'll offer it on other devices. Now of course all the phones we're seeing now are legacies from the Sony Ericsson venture, so I would hope Sony would allow expandable memory on the phones they design.
-Camera: The camera on the Xperia S seems to be amazing from all the photos and videos I've seen so far and is certainly one of the better cameras on a mobile phone, but there is always room for improvement. To this I would hope that Sony could leverage their cybershot/bloggie technologies to make an even better camera on a phone. Sony has very slim cybershot cameras already and their bloggie cameras aren't significiantly thicker than their phones. Depending on the design of the phone they could incorporate a cybershot-level camera with a larger sensor, even more megapixels, and even optical zoom functions. This would put them far and away above the competition except for possibly Nokias Pureview camera tech.
-Flash: PLEASE put in a xenon flash! I know they're power hogs but you did it with the Satio, please do it with your new phones! LED flashes are ok in some situations, but they in no way, shape or form can compare to a xenon flash. Leave an LED flash for video of course.
-CPU: You know what? I like what Sony is already doing with the CPUs. Go with the great performing dual core phones for this year, and if moving to quad core next year makes sense, then go for it, so long as you don't have the sacrifice battery life.
-I know Google really wants to move towards capacitive buttons and all, but I've been hearing a lot of mixed feedback about the buttons on the Xperia S. Even if it will eventually take time for the complainers to get used to it, it shouldn't have to be that way in the first place. Either work out a better system for the capacitive buttons, or maybe a compromise. Maybe they could put physical buttons back in, but have them just be dots like the new design, just a bit bigger so that they feel better.
-Speakers/Audio: I haven't heard the speakers on the Xperia S myself, but reviews seem to be quite good. If anything I would say put in the audio tech from the Walkman Z assuming it is any better.
-Body: Please make it an all aluminum body like the P! Personally I don't care about accessing the battery so an aluminum unibody won't bother me. I know it will bother others, but oh well... deal with it
But yeah, an aluminum body will give that premium feel, and hopefully they can still put on the dirt repellant coating they put on the S to ensure it stays clean. Not to mention the whole iconic design of their phones allows the antenna to be outside the aluminum body, which hopefully won't be a concern for signal quality. Also, continue the trend that's going on with the P and don't put the flaps on the ports. I currently have an X10a phone and the flaps can be annoying after a while. Also, power button on the side like the P please
-Battery: It seems like other companies can cram larger capacity batteries into even thinner phones, so one would hope Sony could do it too. Their current lineup of phones seem great for lasting a full day of normal usage, but customers are always wanting more, so hopefully they can deliver. I'd heard that Sony was working on newer battery techs that could give up to 50% more power, but I have absolutely no idea how close they are to making it a reality.
Well, that's my wishlist off the top of my head. I feel that a lot of this stuff is realistic, but some things like the uber camera tech might make the phone too expensive. It would go a VERY long way in cementing this Sony phone as being in a class by itself amongst Android phones though. So anyways, what would you want Sony to do on the next gen handsets?

Also, I suppose I should also say that if Sony were to make a Vita phone as a successor to the Xperia Play, I'd get that in a heartbeat

My dream Sony phone would be:
Sony Xperia Z
Bravia Monolithic Design
5 inch OLED screen with Bravia Engine. Gorilla Glass 2
2 GB RAM
Quad Core Cortex A9 Sony CPU (same as Vita)
Upto 64gb internal memory, micro sdxc support
16.2 megapixel 1/2.3" CMOS EXMOR R sensor (same as in cybershot TX55) with xenon flash and Carl Zeiss optics
S-Master MX Audio Amplifier
DLNA with “Media Throw” functionality.
IR Remote Control feature ala Tablet S
Playstation certification, PS Remote Play
Water, Temperature and Dust Proof*

A mix for many phones:
Screen: 4.3' Cristal LED (that thing Sony announced with Xperia S) 720p is enough for me.
Body: Aluminium, Removable battery (2500 mhA), Normal SIM, and trasparent strip with color change tech (like Xperia U)
Conectivity: Mini HDMI, Micro USB, Bluetooth 3.0 or 4.0, Wifi, LTE (not available in Brazil yet), removable chin, same setup as Xperia S (things location). Buttons like Xperia U (or Xperia P that have the buttons on the actual strip?)
Hardware: Snapdragon S4 or Tegra 3, 1.5 Gb RAM.
Camera: 12 Mpx, LED or Xenon flash (don't know any difference), Cybershot lens.
Memory: 32 GB of Internal (1.5 Gb for apps, 1.5 Gb for system and rest for user) + Micro SD support, hot swapable.
Software: Vanilla ICS or Sony Customized.
What I am forgetting?

But in concepts, people post actual designs. Here, we're just creating our impossible perfect phones.

Well, all these specs are realistic, so there is nothing impossible, what's impossible is Sony (or anyone) making one.

Well from past tidbits I've read online and an apparently recent confirmation from the poster of this Youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zopeC1YCyYM
It would seem that the Hayabusa phone will have the same design as the Arc phone. That would be a big plus as far as I'm concerned, but hopefully they don't have to sacrifice on specs due to a slimmer form factor. I wonder if they can make the Arc out of aluminum. If so, I'll add that to my list. Of course I don't know how reliable that dude is for info, but he seems certain of himself based on the comments section.
Now one other thing I just thought of might be nice. What if they had an addon that allowed a slider like the Xperia Play? That way you can have your primary phone with great specs, then the addon slider possibly with an additional battery expansion. It'll probably make it as thick as the Play with that accessory on, but it'll let those who want a high end phone get one, and those who want a high end phone with a game pad also have one.
