As shown in this link http://www.xperiablog.net/201[....]changed-if-you-really-need-to/ we now know that replacing the battery on Xperia S can be done domestically eventhough it has a unibody form factor. But now that I have 64gb of removable external disk space in my Arc S, I don't think I can downgrade back to 32gb as it wasn't enough before and it'll never be enough for me. So as the title suggests, does anyone know if the Xperia S' external (unremovable) card can be replaced/upgraded?

I'm guessing you mean internal memory?

I'm guessing this is impossible, unlike the battery the memory chip will most likely be an attached piece of the motherboard, so unless you're expert and fixing phones and know you way around soldering

Unless you know how to use a soldering iron I wouldn't recommend it. This is how a typical eMMC (as in embedded MMC) looks like.

Nope, it isn't internal memory, more like external memory just like what most Samsung Androids have, then there's the external SD. Internal memory is something else AFAIK. Anyway, if that's what eMMC looks like and soldering is absolutely required then I guess I'll pass the Xperia S for now. But I do believe what's making it perform flawlessly is due to the fact that it has a large memory and not dependent on microSD cards like the previous Xperias

I would use the example of a computer, you have the internal hard drive that sits inside the computer, and an external hard drive would be one that you plug into your computer through usb. So surely the xperia s has internal memory only?

out of interest what do you have that uses 64gb? is it just your music?

This is just a matter of definitions. The 32 GB eMMC is called Flash memory in the Xperia S whitepaper. It is internal storage in the same way SSD disk are on a PC. Nobody calls SSD storage for internal memory, do they?
