The question on every smartphone owners lips when a new version of Android is released is always, “When is my device going to get it?” Manufacturers are often cautious in giving out exact timelines as phones and tablets need to be extensively tested before updates can be approved and rolled out. Sam Mobile has some information regarding Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III, Galaxy S II, and the Galaxy Note, with Samsung seemingly busy behind the scenes testing each device.

According to Sam Mobile, test Jelly Bean firmwares for the Galaxy S III have passed the necessary tests, with Samsung currently working on a public version of the update. At this point Samsung is simply trying to finish the Jelly Bean update before getting the final approval from Google to release it out into the wild.

Just read about this on Sammobile and I am a good bit disappointed to learn that the update might for the GS2 might not come until Q4. By then I will be thinking about SGS4 to come out early in the next year. I just don't see the need to get the GS3.
Also why is it that there is uncertainty about updating GS2 to JB? GS2 is the best the selling still and going strong. I figured this update would be out by September the latest but Q4?

Why does it have to take so long for GS2 owners to get JB?
Anyway I am going to update to 4.0.4 via Odin a little later and make do with that for now.

And what do you think about having custom roms? Not stable enough?

The costum roms are nice if not great but I just rather have the phone running as Samsung intended. I don't make plenty changes to my phones so the roms don't mean much to me. At the same time I rather have the option of both the stock firmware and custom roms.

Cant wait to have Android4.1 on my GS2

Lets be happy as most other phones from last year and beginning of this year may either only get the update in late Q4/early 2013 Q1 or not at all, some 2012 mid to high ends are still waiting for a update to 4.0.

I'm running the Resurrection Remix Android 4.1.1 Jellybean v3.0.1 custom rom for my S2 for a while now without any problems. It is an option while waiting for the official Samsung release.
I personally can't do Samsung TW anymore.I installed the official 4.0.4 and a couple hours later had to get it off my phone.
Performance/speed-wise these custom roms top the Samsung rom anyday. Not by much though but you can feel the difference.
So it doesn't matter to me that its gonna be a Q4 release.By that time the RR JellyBean 4.1.1 will have been perfected,as will CM10.
Will definitely give Samsungs offering a go though when it does come.
