Research in Motion looks set to deliver on its promise of a delayed, early 2013 launch for BlackBerry 10 as it confirms the project is now in its final stages.
Speaking to AllThingsD, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins revealed the Canadian firm is now just "polishing" the operating system, which is pretty much complete.
Heins also confirmed that the first BB10 handsets are ready to go and that the firm is ready to deal a "one-two punch" to the market.

The question is, will RIM be still around, early 2013.

For competition's sake I hope they'll be, even though I won't be buying a BB anytime soon

I think they'll be. Even though they don't seem interesting because no-one is getting their phones, they got a little more interesting when they announced that other brands could have their OS.

I am probably the only person here on esato that is excited by this!
I am eagerly awaiting the next Blackberry 'Bold' with so much anticipation that I could care less for Android at the moment.

My wife is very happy with her BB and wants a new one later this year. With a physical keyboard.

They'll be here, they still have huge revenue streams (Data Plans, existing BES 5.0.3/4 along with surprisingly new updating in BB Fusion server that will co-exist with BES: BES for BB7.1 or lower "legacy" devices, iOS/Android/BB10 devices will use BB Fusion server implementation and its NOC implementation with specific set of APIs that leverage beyond what BES providers. Not to mention growth from 70million to 81/2 million subscribers using BB's for BES/BIS etc on a global scale vs what we're perceiving (press inflated yet factual) about massive sales/revenues/market share declined in USA and Canada.
The problem I have with this news about BB10 devices are ready ... I simply call it BULLSH*T!!
RIM you can fool us all once, maybe twice ... but playing this game 5th time around (PlayBook OS 2 will be ready by March 2012, Fall 2012, no ... Q1 of 2013, BB10 devices for Fall 2012, sorry overstepped out bounds we meant Q1 2013. of All products announced just over 12mths by RIM I honestly believe that ONLY BB FUSION was delivered on-time and completely.)

The current bold looks like it has an awesome keyboard... im due an upgrade this october, but the bold 9900 is nearly 1 year old. Has RIM confirmed that they will be releasing a new Bold in 2013? if so i'll probably stick it out on PAYG until then!

Confirmed a new hardware qwerty BB10 device; maybe not branded "Bold".
resolution: 750x750 square on such a device.
Full Touchscreens get 1280x800.

Thanks for the info..im not keen on the full touchscreen ones. If i were to buy a touchscreen phone it would most likely be from samsung or HTC!
Hopefully they keep the current bold chassis/keyboard and upgrade the hardware! A square screen though? first i've heard of it on a phone....
