iOS6 is sub par to Android 4.0 and with 4.1 almost here for everyone on Android iOS will only fall further behind. I think the main driver for Apple is the brand loyalty and satisfaction they have with their fans. There is little new on the iPhone that isn't out for Android already.

It isn't even brand loyalty, iphone has just become a fashion statement nothing more.

It's all about brand, image and marketing. End product is very over rated and to me rather bland and boring.

I also think it is about loyalty as well. How else to explain the hold that Apple has on customers who clearly do not know that many of the features on their newest phone is out for a while on other platforms?

Well the Maps on IPhone is a big step towards improving the IOS features. Yes, it is not that functional compared to the Google Maps but really holds much promise! Apple have now the flexibility to do what they wanna do with the maps without relying to Google. Besides, Google Maps on iPhone had not been updated since the 3rd or 4th generation and it would be very disappointing to keep it like that now.

And the iPhone might have become boring because of the same UI layout, it still has the most functional OS. Apple has a proven track record in supporting older gen iPhone models, which Android manufacturers have not been able to do consistently and effectively!

I am still using my iPhone 4 and the OS updated to iOS 6. I would say it is still up-to-the-task. If I had bought the X10 or Galaxy S before, I would have made a huge mistake as the these phone were not updated to even just the Ice Cream version.
