Canadian firm Research in Motion (RIM) is pretty bullish about the chances of its upcoming, and it hopes company-saving, operating system BlackBerry 10.

RIM CEO Thorsten Heins took to the stage at the firm's Jam Americas event in San Jose California yesterday to declare that the delayed BB10 can topple Windows Phone 8 and claim third place in the mobile OS rankings.

Heins said: "We have a clear shot at being the number three platform on the market. We're not just another open platform on the market, we are BlackBerry."

RIM OFFERS ANDROID DEVELOPERS UP TO $2,000 TO PORT APPS TO BLACKBERRY 10 THIS WEEKEND

RIM (RIMM) really wants Android developers to bring their apps over to BlackBerry 10, and it’s got the cash to prove it. Via AndroidGuys, it seems that RIM will hold a “BlackBerry 10 Last Chance Port-A-Thon” that will pay Android developers $100 for every approved app they port over to BlackBerry 10, with a limite of 20 different paid apps per developer. RIM says that the “port-a-thon” will start at noon Friday and run for the following 36 hours. App developers have shown some strong interest in BlackBerry 10 so far as RIM announced this week that it had received 15,000 app submission over just two days during the last port-a-thon, although the company didn’t mention how much influence its “really cool” SDK had in convincing companies to develop for its new platform.

RIM truly means business, Microsoft and Nokia should be VERY worried as RIM seems to be hungrier than ever for some market share, and not only do RIM have emerging markets eating out the palm of their hands, they have an incredible infrastructure, BB maybe seen as dead in the developed economies, but in the developing economies BB has a,considerable share and a very strong brand presents, and with them now bringing these developers to port many of these apps with such great incentives even BEFORE BB10 is launched, they may just hit the ground running.

RIM really do mean business because they realise this is make-or-break.

I've always loved the all-or-nothing approach!

Microsoft won't die as a corporation just because their OS fails, but RIM will if their OS fails. There is potential, let's see if they can go all the way.
