I need help with my retro Ericsson S868.
The phone works, I have a new battery and the phone is unlocked. The problem is, when I switch it on, it sometimes starts up correctly and displays the network name (EE). But it's started displaying "no access" on the screen. When it says no access, it still shows plenty of signal strength. When I try to dial out I hear 3 quiet beeps and that's it. When I try to call it from another phone it goes to voicemail. The SIM card is the same one I use in my everyday phone.
I have read on the net about it, and this "no access" display seems to be a fairly common problem with Ericsson and some Sony Ericsson phones. People have said it's likely to be a problem with the RF Modulator (antenna?) inside the phone. I'm assuming this part is faulty and needs attention/replacement. As this phone dates from 1998, parts for it are of course very scarce, and my local phone shops are unable to repair it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, or tell me if they know of anyone in the UK who can repair Ericsson phones?
Or can a simple settings adjustment sort it?
Any help will be massively appreciated!
Thanks.

From time to time I have the same Prob with my A1018s.
In my case, it´s definetly related to the SIM-card, which I use in diferent phones and so its already a litte bit scrached.
Try another SIM-card or, if you don´t have any, ask your provider to exchange it to a new one.
(not to forget to copy all data from the old SIM to the new and you should first make a backup from your data/contacts, which are stored on the SIM.)
cheers !

Wow! You have a NEW battery for the S868? I have searched for a battery for my GH688 and ended up giving up.
Sorry, can't offer any helpful advice, was just surprised you can still get batteries for such old phones.
Goodluck with your problem.

@Dups! My A1018s came with a new battery, it's not an Ericsson original, it's a remake by someone else. It looks absolutely genuine and holds an excellent charge. It fits A1018s, GA628, S868, SH888, I888 plus other models.
@KALIOSTRO Thanks for the new SIM card suggestion. I've not long since replaced my SIM card as the one I had just stopped working. I have another Orange (EE) SIM card and I get exactly the same results with that one too. It works perfectly with my Sony Ericsson K850i, K600i, Ericsson A1018s and other phones I have, but only the S868 has these problems. I keep searching for another S868 so I can maybe swap the innards over and hope for the best.
