My question is about the following statement that I've heard:

iOS native player has no support for Xvid (i.e. video compressed to MPEG-4
with Xvid codec).

However, I can't find this fact on the internet. The only reference is this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2073798?start=0&tstart=0 . Seems like the statement is true.

But... I've just converted a small 320x240 video fragment to .mp4 file with Xvid codec. And it plays normally on an iPhone 4 (with iOS 5.1) (I guess it was played by the native player). So my questions are:

Is the statement above true or false?
Do you know links prooving that?
If it's true, what does my experiment mean?

Not supporting those generally means no flash player
When u try to click onto a video on safari I think!

It is a pain but that's life I guess!

So what's your opinion - why was I able to watch this video? It seems, it was just iOS's native player. How do I know exactly?
