The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 – a smartphone that just got announced officially after weeks of speculations, truly deserves its name for its among the largest handsets to ever see the light of day. With its 6.3-inch display panel, it overshadows even behemoths like the Samsung Galaxy Note II, LG Optimus G Pro, and the likes. Yet under its hood beats the heart of a mid-range device.

Its screen, despite its massive proportions, has an okay resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels. And no, it isn't of the AMOLED kind – we're dealing with an LCD panel here. Providing processing power is a dual-core 1.7GHz processor of make and model that are yet to be announced. The chip is paired with not one, not two, not three, but... 1.5GB of RAM for smooth multitasking performance.

With an 8-megapixel camera on its back, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 should be a decent snapper given the right circumstances, while that 1.9MP front-facing cam will come in handy when you're in the mood for a video chat. There's also 8 or 16 gigs of on-board storage, which can be expanded with the use of a microSD card. A cool perk that you won't see on many smartphones is the IR blaster, which allows one to control TVs and other electronics straight from their Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. There's also support for LTE network connectivity at up to 100Mbps on the downlink.

All of that, including the phone's massive 3,200mAh battery, is enclosed in a body that's only 8 millimeters thick. The device, however, is quite heavy tipping the scales at 199 grams. Andorid 4.2 Jelly Bean - the most recent version of the platform, will come loaded on the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 out of the box.

The exact pricing of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 has not been announced yet, but we'll have more information on the matter by next month. The smartphone is expected to launch in May across Europe and in other markets soon after.

I'm waiting to see the official pricing before I make any judgements, but I can already see this being a great seller if priced correctly, according to this study: http://www.phonearena.com/new[....]es-across-the-world_id41761#6- the Samsung Galaxy Note range hits the top 10 most used Android devices in many key markets, out doing most other OEM's high end and mid end efforts, so it seems pocketability isn't a big deal to many Android users.

If priced right this could hurt the rest of the "also rans" from the Htc One, Xperia Z to their mid range counterparts, as users will be getting a bigger display, better update support, better multitasking and content amongst many other things at much cheaper prices, things just got even more interesting with the arrival of these two.

Can I ask why do you bother to post in the Samsung threads when you clearly have no interest in buying any Samsung products?

That is a good question aussieland1 and I am sure the sonytroll has no good answer

The Mega 6.3 looks great and I would love to have one. Battrytime, camera and the screen will be great on this one and there is a market for these phones they only have to get the price right

Cheers.. i like it too but then i am a Note 2 owner (i am a sucker for large screens). I agree about the price hopefully it is not going to be more than 450-500 EUR. Gsmarena is claiming that Mega 6.3 will have Exynos 5250 and T604 which is on Nexus 10- that would be great if this is indeed true

already a hands on:

you mean that you are extremely childish? Yes i do. So basically because one or 2 people are trolling the Sony threads you feel that it is ok to do the same with samsung threads? How about the rest of the users that don't post anything in the sony threads why do you think it is ok to punish them as well?
