Hi Everyone,
I figured I'd create a new thread as a consolidation of tips for BlackBerry 10 as a whole ... maybe something for others to reference, and others even mildly interested.
BlackBerry 10 - Browser Tips Part 1
Source:
http://helpblog.blackberry.co[....]03/blackberry-10-browser-tips/
Browser Startup Settings
Controlling what happens when you open the Browser is pretty easy. For example, you can have the Browser open a specific website, such as your favorite blog, or open and load any tabs (aka websites) you were viewing the last time you closed the Browser. To specify what you would like to occur whenever you open the Browser, complete the following steps:
1. Open the Browser and press the action key followed by tapping Settings
2. Tap Display and Actions
3. In the On Startup field, select one of the following options:
Show My Home Page – The Browser when opened will open display a specific website (based on the Home Page setting found in step 4)
Show Last Tabs – The Browser when open will load any tabs (aka websites) that were open the last time you closed the Browser
4. In the Home Page field, select one of the following options (Note: These settings only apply if you select Show My Home Page in step 3):
Open a New Page –The Browser when opened will show websites you’ve visited recently.
Open a Specific Page – The Browser will open a specific page. If you were viewing the website you would like to set as your Home page before accessing this settings menu, use the Current Page option to insert the website address or manually enter the website URL.
5. When finished, tap Back to save your changes.
Reader Mode
To help you focus on reading articles or other text on a webpage and remove distracting clutter like ads, you can use the Reader Mode. To do this, open the Browser, go to a website and press the action key followed by tapping Reader Mode.
Change your default search engine
Depending on what you are searching for, you may need to change your default search engine. To do this while using a BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps.
1. Open the Browser and enter a search term
2. In the top right corner, an icon that represents the default search engine will appear
3. Tap this icon, and from the drop-down list, select your desired search engine.
Add a website to your Home screen
If you want fast access to some of your favorite websites on your BlackBerry 10 smartphone, you should consider adding them to your home screen. To do this, open the Browser, go to a website and press the action key followed by tapping Add to Home Screen.
PS: I personally don't use this, I prefer not to have clutter on my smartphone home screen.
Bonus: Change permissions for specific websites
As you browse the Internet, you might grant permissions to allow websites to access information, such as your location. You can review and optionally remove those permissions at any time using the following steps:
1. Open the Browser and press the action key followed by tapping Settings
2. Tap Site Permissions and tap a website you’d like to review
3. Customize permissions and tap Back to save your changes, or tap the Trashcan icon to remove permissions for a specific website.
BlackBerry 10 - Browser Tips Part 2

1. Sharing is caring
Want to share that hilarious GIF with your best friend? Sharing the page you’re viewing on your BlackBerry 10 device is really easy, just tap the action key in the bottom right corner and select Share. From this menu you’ll be able to select a variety of options such as BBM, Facebook, BlackBerry Remember, etc.
Don’t forget you can use NFC to share as well! For example, let’s say you are looking at a really good article and you want to share the URL with your colleague who sits next to you. Provided your colleague’s device supports NFC, instead of copying and pasting the URL into a conversation, tap Share followed by NFC. After bumping devices, your colleague will get a prompt asking if they’d like to open the URL.
2. Clear your browser history
Did you do some secret shopping and forget to turn on Private Browsing first?? If so, here’s how to clear your browsing history!
Open the browser
Tap the action key followed by Settings
Tap Privacy and Security
Tap one or both of the following options:
Clear History
Clear Cookies and Other Data
3.
Keyboard Shortcuts - Power of the Keyboard
If you’re using a BlackBerry 10 device with a physical keyboard such as the BlackBerry Q10 or Q5, here are several shortcuts you can take advantage of including one for Reader Mode!
NOTE: This is ALSO enabled on the Z10 in BB10.1 OS, just use 2 fingers to slide up from the bottom bezel to reveal the virtual keyboard on demand to use the shortcuts listed below.
Go to the top of a web page, press T
Go to the bottom of a web page, press B
Move down the screen, press Space
Move up the screen, press the Up arrow and Space
Go forward one page, press N
Go back one page, press P
Search text on a page, press S
Open your bookmarks, press K
Open your history, press H
Enter reader mode, press R
Refresh a web page, press L
Zoom in, press I
Zoom out, press O
Turn on Adobe Flash support
Depending on what websites you are visiting you might want to turn on Adobe Flash support. Here’s how to do it!
Open the Browser
Tap the action key in the bottom right corner
Tap Settings followed by Display and Actions
Set the Adobe Flash switch to On
5. Enable Desktop Mode
Similar to the previous tip, depending on what websites you are visiting you may want to optionally enable Desktop Mode so your browser loads the desktop version of a website instead of the mobile version. Be mindful of this setting though because until you turn it off every website you visit will display the desktop version.
Open the Browser
Tap the action key in the bottom right corner
Tap Settings followed by Developer Tools
Set the Desktop Mode switch to On
Bonus: Find files that you downloaded
After you download a file from the BlackBerry Browser you can go to the download manager to find it again, open it, and share it. In the Browser, tap the action key in the bottom right corner followed by Downloads.

BlackBerry 10 - Zip Files
Source:
http://helpblog.blackberry.co[....]rry-10-working-with-zip-files/
Did you know that the BlackBerry 10 File Manager app supports Zip files, which makes sharing lots of files in a compressed package really easy?
For example, my fiancée took some pretty incredible pictures at our local park, so instead of sending me them one at time she zipped up her favorite pictures and sent me a Zip file using NFC.
Tip: Don’t forget that you can use NFC to share files! All you need to do is find the file you’d like to send, tap Share followed by selecting NFC. After doing this, provided your friend’s device has NFC as well, bump the back of your devices together to send the file.
How to zip files and folders
Open the File Manager app
Touch and hold a file or folder
Optionally tap Select More to select additional files or folders
Expand the action menu that appears on the right by tapping the three white dots
Tap Zip
After completing these steps, you’ll notice a Zip file is created and appears in the folder you are actively viewing. If you want to rename the Zip file, tap and hold the Zip file followed by selecting Rename from the menu on the right.
How to unzip a file
To preview the contents of a Zip file, tap on the Zip file and review the files within, or optionally tap Unzip along the bottom toolbar to extract the files.
You also have the ability to unzip a file using the following steps:
Open the File Manager app
Navigate to the location of the Zip file
Tap and hold the Zip file
Tap Unzip
Where can I learn more about the File Manager?
To learn more, open the Help app on a BlackBerry 10 device and search for File Manager or check out the user guide for your particular BlackBerry 10 device. I’d also recommend checking out the following video which provides a great overview of the various functions offered by BlackBerry 10 File Manager app.

BlackBerry 10 Typing Tips
Source:
http://helpblog.blackberry.co[....]day-blackberry-10-typing-tips/
note: (to up updated for Q10 within a few days as this is not fully consolidated)
1. Inserting Accented Characters & Symbols
Adding special characters is really easy, all you need to do is hold the key that corresponds with the accent or symbol you’d like to insert. After holding the key for a second you’ll be shown a list of available characters. For example, in the screenshots below I am holding the R key on a BlackBerry Z10. It works the same on a BlackBerry Q10.
Tip: To use accented characters in a text message complete the following steps:
Access BlackBerry Hub
Tap the action key in the bottom right corner
Tap Settings followed by Text Messages
Tap the Advanced icon and set Allow Special Characters to On
2. Turn on CAP Lock
For those that aren’t familiar with this shortcut, the next time you need to type something in uppercase consider enabling CAP Lock.
Physical Keyboard (BlackBerry Q10) – To turn on CAP Lock, press ALT and the Up arrow (shift key). When finished, tap the Up arrow (shift key) again to turn off CAP Lock.
Touch Screen only (BlackBerry Z10) – To turn on CAP Lock, tap and hold the Up arrow (shift key). After a second or two, you’ll notice a small line appears below the Up Arrow which indicates CAP Lock is turned on . To turn it off, tap the Up arrow again.
3. Enable and use predictions
Your BlackBerry device is designed to learn what you tend to say and where in a sentence you tend to say it, and it uses this information to try to predict what word you might type next. When you pause your typing, suggested words are displayed above the BlackBerry Keyboard. As you can probably tell already, this is a fantastic way to speed up your typing efficacy so I highly recommend trying it out by following the steps below.
Swipe down from the top of the home screen
Tap Settings followed by Language and Input
Tap Prediction and Correction
Set Show Predictions switch to On
4. Create Text Shortcuts
A quick way to speed up typing efficiency is to use text shortcuts. When you type a text shortcut, your BlackBerry device will replace the shortcut with a full word or phrase that you’ve defined. For example, one of the first text shortcuts I made converts ‘omw’ to ‘On my way! Seeya soon ’. To turn on text shortcuts, review your text shortcuts as well as create new ones, follow the steps below.
Swipe down from the top of the home screen
Tap Settings followed by Language and Input
Tap Prediction and Correction followed by Word Substitution
Set the Word Substitution switch to On
5. Add unique terms to your personal dictionary
If you find specific words that you are entering are getting marked by the spell check feature as being incorrect (you’ll notice a red line below the word), all you need to do is add these unique words to your personal dictionary and they won’t be marked as a spelling mistake going forward. With that being said, the next time this occurs and a word you are using that is correct, is marked as a spelling mistake, to add the term to your personal dictionary tap the word followed by tapping Add to dictionary.
To manage the personal dictionary, use the steps below to view, add, edit & delete terms if needed.
Swipe down from the top of the home screen
Tap Settings followed by Language and Input
Tap Spell Check followed by Edit Personal Dictionary
To add a new word, tap the plus sign
To edit a word , tap the word
To delete a word, tap the trashcan
Bonus –Swipe to delete!
For those using a BlackBerry 10 device that
doesn’t include a physical keyboard, you have the ability to delete words by swiping your finger across the keyboard from right to left. Make sure you try out this shortcut and if you are using a right-to-left language, swipe from left to right to delete words instead.
IMPORTANT: Using the swipe across the keyboard to delete ... using 2 fingers will delete 2 words, using 3 fingers will delete 3 words, and so on; the difficulty is trying to fit 4+ fingers on the screen on the Z10. Bonus hint here is BB's wording about stating BB 10 device that doesn't use a physical keyboard, device is chosen not specifically Z10 so we know there'll be other touchscreen BB10 devices in the future.
EDIT: BlackBerry Q10 Keyboard Shortcuts!!
Understanding: This will hopefully show off the power of the physical keyboard and why some people still prefer it over the virtual keyboard. Considering how advanced the offering of virual keyboards on various platforms, namely Android, I find it odd these features/functions haven't been brought over as of yet. Rumor has it that the Z10 will get these shortcuts in BB10.2 update scheduled later this year (a Beta SDK has already been launched free to developers so this 'should' occur before too long).
I apologize for the messy layout as the source is from a PDF direct from BlackBerry and the copy is from columns, resulting in the paste layout below.
