The good news: I can use my Belkin USB Bluetooth adapter on my laptop (XP Home) and work desktop machines (XP Pro) -- thanks to Esato's forums and the Tecom drivers at
www.tecomproduct.com. I can use XTNDConnect to Sync my T68i, I can use Float's Mobile Agent, I can send and receive notes and files. Yippee.
The bad news: Using all the same settings and installation procedures, etc, I cannot use the adapter in my home desktop machine (also XP Pro).
I have found virtually no information about my specific problem (aside from ONE post on a some newsgroup found using Google Groups search). If a solution exists, please point me to it!!
The symptoms:
1. THe bluetooth drivers/software seem to install fine. I can pair my phone successfully with the desktop. BUT, the desktop cannot find any available services on the paired phone (i.e. My Bluetooth Places simply reports No Services Available). Therefore i cannot activate the virtual serial port to do sync-ing etc.
2. Number 1 is probably related to this: None of the settings in my Bluetooth Config dialog will save. For example, everytime I edit my Bluetooth properties, there is no name listed for my computer. All the settings are defaults. If i change them, and apply those changes, they return to their defaults each time I re-open this dialog.
I've tried re-installing, using different drivers (Belkin's CD vs. Tecom's downloadable ones). I've looked through registry keys related to the Widcomm driver and altered permissions, etc. Nothing seems to work. Not surprisingly, Tecom's tech support hasn't responded to my emails. Anybody got any ideas?!?! This is very frustrating. It works great on 2 out of 3 computers, but not all...
Also, does IRMC sync work well for anyone? I've gotten very sporadic performance. The one time the sync actually started and seemed to work (before dying on the calendar data), it duplicated every contact as opposed to sync-ing... I guess I should just stick with XTNDConnect?
Thanks for all the info on the site, and I apologize if the above is discussed elsewhere. Just point me to it if so... Believe me, i have searched!
Frustrated,

FINALLY! I think i've got it. this is also posted on another topic list under "Bluetooth Question":
"Multiple re-installs and regcleans didn't seem to help... Btw, i've got no RAID and my windows is on my C: drive.
BUT! the good news is that i got it working!!!!!! after all this time!!! i logged in as Administrator (yes, my usual user account IS in the Administrators group, but this time I logged in as the *official* administrator account instead). after uninstalling everything and re-installing as Administrator, the registry permissions seemed to be correct and it all seems to work now! Sweeeet...
I hope this helps others,
elknwirep"
