I've had my unit (replacement) since January 17, 2003. It's still has the original firmware versions (see following):

Phone CXC162002 R1B
BT CXC12529 R2C
ORG CXC162001 R1C02
CDA CDA162001/8 R1B02

I have not had any major problems since and I have only encountered the 10-second reset four times (spread) as of today. This, in spite of heavy use (I would normally arrive home with an orange color in the battery icon from a fresh charge in the morning).

Out of the house: my phone checks my POP3 mail every 15 mins (I reply to my incoming mail most of the time and have my reply sent immediately), either my Just-Yak or TipicMe is always connected, I read CNN with the built-in WAP browser, I listen to my MP3s, and I watch Avril's sk8ter boi video every now and then.

At home: I use Opera to browse the Web thru BT with my desktop connected to my ISP, do file transfer to my phone (e.g. try new ringtones), do software installation (to try demo apps), and synch my P800 with my Outlook thru BT.

Every once in a while, I would check the capabilities of my phone by browsing WAP thru the free GPRS APN, thru the dial-up (+639172399), use it as a modem (infrared and bluetooth), and even use it to dial my prepaid ISP's land line number.

A concern that I have is: are the upgrades done sequentially or can one skip to R1J without having the R1F upgrade for example. If done sequentially, that is new versions require a prior upgrade, then I will be facing a big problem in the future when I would already need to have an upgrade because of, let's say, a major enhancement to any of the above listed modules.

I would like to know how many P800 users have not had any firmware upgrades done on their phones and have not encountered major problems that would force them to do so. Please post your replies with the date of either purchase or replacement and the number of times either a hang or the 10-sec reset was encountered.
***ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE NOT UPGRADED THE F/W OF THEIR P800s NEED TO POST A REPLY***

Can somebody also confirm whether the upgrades are sequential or can one skip to the most recent.

THANKS.

I have only had the 10 second message once in a month but I will upgrade at the first opportunity I get.

Assuming the P800 upgrades in the same manner as previous SE phones then you can jump versions as it completely replaces the firmware.

Problems begin when using Opera browser as it uses a lot of memory & sometimes when surfing it just freezes and it freezes the P800 so the 10 second msg appears. Otherwise everything is amazing. This message was posted from a P800

It was great until Opera... I had to delete and play games. Now is working perfectly.

2 months on R1b, no problems at all, i don`t get the 10 sec thing at all now( had it 2 or 3 times only in the first couple of weeks).
I will NOT upgrade my phone unless it needs to go for repair or similar, if it ain`t broke, don`t fix it.
