Hi,
I finally got my P800 after dreaming about it for over a year.
My first impression was "what the %^@$%". The screen was smaller than I expected and there was a dust spot under the screen.
It took me a while to get over it and start working. I like what I have so far.
The one thing I tried first and liked was the fact that the voice recordings I made are in WAV format and that I can move them to the PC and listen to them. It wasn't all that hard (tracking down the exact voice WAV is a bit tedious).
There are a few things I can't figure out, though.
1. Many times you leave an application open and it takes up memory. How are you supposed to close the application unless there's an exit button (not all of them do)?
The only way I can figure out how to do it is through the task manager in the file manager
There must be a better way...
2. Jar files have this annoying keypad on the bottom. Pacman, for example, takes up less than 1/2 the screen... Also, functionally wise you can't control the pacman any way except through the onscreen menu
The jogdial only controlls up and down (pulling or pushing changes apps).
Any ideas?
Oh, one last thing. Any useful WAP sites anywhere?

Just to answer the closing down issue. The Filemanager programme which you can get from
www.My-symbian.com (free) shows you running programmes and lets you close them.
Much better is Handy Day ($19.95). Price is bit steep but it is like today screen on pocket pc's, gives you 6 extra quicklaunch icons and ability to do other things (including closing applications). I tried it first then ended up buying it as I think it is a great little app. (Again refer to
www.my-symbian.com).
I am used to closing programmes down on my iPAQ as the system can slow down a lot, but haven't really noticed slowdown on P800 with many applications open.

Does your P800 charge when it's sitting in the cradle? I read on another forum that it does, but mine doesn't

It charges if you plug the charger up to the base station
I'm too new to all this, I feel silly paying for every itty bitty feature, particularly one that would take me 2 more seconds to do on my own...
I also noticed that there's memory leaks everywhere. Even if I close everything down, it still doesn't always have enough memory to run MIB II.
BTW, I tried using my old R380s serial cable with the unit and it works! I basically plugged it in, enabled the COM1 on my Phone connection link app, and it picked it right up.
Basically, the base station has a simple USB to RS232 converter built into it (probably a single chip solution powered by the USB).
That makes purchasing the expensive USB cable useless...
I got stuck on that lock code by accidentally locking the unit and punching myself repeatedly until I tried 0000 and it freed the unit right up...

I also feel like a complete novice now...
There are still lots of things I can't figure out properly.
How to switch to a running application, for example. How to free memory properly...
It took me forever to figure out how to turn on handsfree mode and I couldn't find it in the book either...
