Just a few questions regarding option 5 (Format Internal Disk) in P800 Service Information menu (accessed by jUP,*,jDN,jDN,*,jDN). As I am not yet brave enough to try this on my own (eventually i will if curiosity gets the best of me). What will be the phone state? Is this almost the same as a Master Reset? If this is a OS reset (much like formatting PocketPC RAM to default), will this remove any existing network locks?

Personally i have tried formatting a 9210 (Shift Ctrl F), i ended up with the factory default set missing some features and software (like profiles) that is not included in the installtion CD.

I've tried using the Format Internal Disk. Basically, it will format the handset to factory setting minus the predefined ringtones, pictures, video, viewer, chess and solitaire. You'll have to reinstall all the above-mentioned from the SE disc again. Almost similar with Master Reset with Deleting All Installed Application.
After Formating Internal Disk, check your Software Information and you will discover that the CDA version has wiped off. Anyway, this CDA version is in .txt format. You can write in a notepad and later store it in the C:/System/CDA again.

so if we can just rewrite the CDA, can we change it to a generic CDA and use online update?

No this is not possible...

He is talking about the CDA textfile in:
C:\System\Data\Cda.txt

This text file contains your cda version that is shown in the "system information"

Ok, answer to the topic starter.
Before i format my internal disk, i allways make a manual backup, and not a backup with the se program "Backup & Restore"

At this way, i backup my:
- Contacts
- All MAIL (SMS, MMS, EMAIL, BEAMED Stuff, etc)
- Jotter
- Agenda
- Media Files
- Cda.txt
- Default Sounds (found in c:\system\data)

After that i format the internal disk, and at the same way (manually) i restore my files back, that is clean!
