I used to check my pop and imap email accounts using Vizzavi WAP as the connection on my T68.
But recently when I try to check, or send emails, it can never find my mail server. It'll connect to WAP, authenticate and all that, but when it tries to find the mail server it always fails. I've tried various different mail accounts and they all fail.
Has anyone experienced this? Know a workaround?
Thanks

you cannot do pop3 or general internet access via the WAP profile, you need to set up the internet profile which means creating a new data account on GPRS and the only setting you need is APN set to internet

It used to work. Vodafone must've changed their settings.
I don't use GPRS. Will a normal dialup account work?

oh right. sorry. Assumed everyone uses GPRS these days.

In that case ignore my comment.. I haven't used dial up for over a year.

actually... I work in Germany Monday to Friday and used to get email via dial up on my prepaid LOOP (now o2) card. I found when I switched to GPRS with the same (or perhaps more since GPRS connects easier than dial up) usage that my prepaid credit lasts much longer.

My guess is that for emails, the cost of dial up connection time (and reconnect when the line drops) to download at 9600 baud compared with the cost data download (if you have your settings to minimize large emails) is not favourable.

I suppose the problem with post paid like that on Vodafone is that you have a call plan and a GPRS plan whereas on my german pre paid calls and GPRS all come out of the same pool of prepaid money.

Ok, all solved!
Instead of using WAP, I've set it to use my dialup account, and it works beautifully now. When I originally got the phone all those years ago mail didn't work with a dialup account. I guess they fixed it in one of the firmware updates.

When it comes to cost, WAP and internet dialup come out of my 150 mins I get each month. I don't use these usually, so it doesn't cost me any extra.
GPRS would cost at least an extra £7 per month, probably much more.
