> P800 Voda (UK) and email access
Bookmark topic
Sorry to repeat this question, but this is driving me mad. SE (UK) won;t provide support as phone isn't available yet. Vodafone are the same, BUT I can NOT access my Bt Internet nor Vodafone.net email accounts through my P800 on Vodafone. With the saem account, I could through my Treo270 access email perfectly well, but the P800 throws up various error messages, and doesn't actually seem to connect via GPRS to the servers. I must have some sort of setting wrong in my phone, but for the life of me, can not work out which... surely someone out there must use Vodafone Uk and access either BtInternet and/or Vodafone.net for email and beable to provide me with the correct settings??
TIA

I've got my P800 on Orange, so some settings will be different, but I'll try & help
Couple of questions. I assume GPRS is working ok for internet...
Is it both sending and receiving e-mails that's a problem. just one of them, or not sure? I had a similar problem to yours, briefly, before I remembered to change the SMTP server settings.
What's the exact error message that you get?

Nick, the GPRS works fine, and also MMS, but whenever I try to connect to either email account, I get the globe icon, and the handset with the red cross through it ( i.e connecting to GPRS) BUT no data is exchanged.. for example message when trying to connect to Vodafone.net is " could not find DNS server, please check the DNS address in the internet control panel" and if I click on the globe Icon. it says 0.0kbb sent

@wayno - ditto.
The problem lies in the apn in the internet account settings. I have mine set to wap.vodaphone.co.uk and it works for wap, (and opera until today for some reason) but i can't get it working with the 'internet' apn. The string is exactly that, but im not sure of the user and password.
I'm fairly sure you've got the same problem, as it's only refusing the different ports (email etc) because it's a wap only gateway. Ive had it since friday but had always been in dodgy signal and assumed that was the problem.
Have posted the request for the details in the gprs settings forum and will call voda tomorrow hopefully for the details...
Let me know if you solve it and find anything out, even if this isnt the cause
Updated:
Im amased.. I just thought id try the automated voicemail to see if i could request the settings... some guy answerred the phone and they work 24 hours! The user/pass is web/web, but it still won't let me on....

Iīm not sure at all about this, but Ericson phones sometimes want the IP-number instead of the name. Atleast that worked for me configuring my email account, allthough it wasnīt a GPRS-connection.
Perhaps itīs worth a shoot....

Hmm, looks like it's a connection problem rather than just e-mail settings then (because you're getting a DNS server error rather than an error connecting to the pop or smtp servers). My Orange phone uses the same internet account for both GRPS internet and GPRS e-mail, Voda might use different connections? The problem I had was GPRS would connect fine & THEN there was a connection problem, but it looks like it doesn't connect at all for you trying to use e-mail (well not to the correct Voda service anyway).
The only extra thing I can suggest is to check that your phone is set to use the same internet connection for both GPRS internet and GPRS e-mail (e.g. mine is set for 'preferred' for both internet and e-mail, which is the Orange GPRS one). As I said, Orange use the same connection for these two, but Voda may not
Andy_P's post seems to suggest a connection problem to GPRS too as he said that he used the Voda WAP service, but couldn't get the 'internet' one working. Shame Voda aren't doing support for the P800 yet. I can't really help with Voda internet connections I'm afraid as I'm on Orange
Hope you get a reply from the GPRS settings forum that helps....
Sorry couldn't be of any more help
Nick

hey wayno...
Try changing your apn to 'internet' and have user/pass as web/web.
Might be worth having a new profile for this in case it doesn't work.
I would assume if this doesn't work you need to speak to voda, as their payt gprs scheme doesn't allow gprs internet, you have to be on the bundled minutes scheme. Let me know!
( Mine now works perfectly...)

Andy_ P I am on bundled minutes, and everythign worked perfectly well using my old Treo 270.
I have changed the Vodafone GPRS connection to Vizzavi, and I can now receive my Vodafone.net email... that's 1 down- only 3 more setting to get..!

read my post again dude.. the vizzavi setting is whats causing the problem, and I don't mean bundled minutes I mean bundled data (eg 5mb).
You need to be on the 'internet' apn to receive any non-vodaphone data, ie to a third party email server, or even something like msn I believe.
The wap.vodaphone.co.uk is exactly that, a wap gateway, and you are trying to receive full internet requests.
