> Which ISP allows Dial-Up?
Bookmark topic
I've been trying to connect to America Online with my t68i. The phone dials, but does not connect. I e-mailed Sony Ericsson about it, and this is their reply:
>Dear Valued Customer,

>Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.

>We apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, AOL has
>proprietary settings, you will not be able to log into AOL through your
>mobile phone. Some service providers offer AOL IM but that is
>through their service and you would have to contact them.

I tried asking them which ISP would allow a connection over the phone, and they said that they didn't know. Does anyone know an ISP that I can connect to with the modem built into my T68i?

I connect to the web on my P800 via MSN dial-up.

The MSN 8 Dial-up hourly plan for $9.95/month and $1.50 each additional hour after 20 hours doesn't look too bad. Anyone have another ISP that they've gotten to work?

Well, this may come as a shock to some of you, and some may already know. Usually most of the isp's allow gsm dial up, ihavent heard of any yet who dont allow this kind of connection via ur fone,,,but the thing is gsm carriers may not allow this kind of connection, because they dont want you to use ur minutes to surf the net,etc... ATT doesnt allow it for instance...i know for a fact that t-mobile allows it...so if u are using an att plan, this definitely wont work...it can only work if u are using the data plan.which is a big rip off
hope this helped

I saw someone else posted that ATT didn't allow dial-up networking, but it seems a little hard to believe. How could they do that anyway technically speaking? I am with ATT in a year contract. Will they let me out if I complain about not being able to use dial-up on their network? Anyone tried this?

ok u can check att's forums:
http://forums.attwireless.com/attws
no u cannot cancel ur contract even if u complained about that feature not working. when u signed the contract it didnt say that they were compelled to have it to work.
yes, att has disabled that feature, anything is possible with today's technology. that feature uses hcd or something like that, and att can allow and not allow anything in their network feature. actually any gsm company can do it. i believe att did this, just because they had a very good deal(unlimited calling plan for 99 usd) and they didnt want people to sign up for that deal and use the fone as a dialup modem. they d rather have u sign up for data plan and be charged for data rather than use the unlimited minutes. plus if u use ur fone as a dialup modem...that mean many poeople will be using those ports that allow this kind of connection and slow down the flow of "information".
just look it up in the forum:

hope this helped

AT&T's CSD disability is a bad business startegy being that all other GSM providers in the US offer it. In their efforts to encourage use of GPRS on their network, they are at the same time driving away a certain audience as well. I use GSM CSD via Cingular's network on a daily basis without fail. If you are going to be placing data calls to access the internet, maybe you should consider switching from AT&T to Cingular or T-Mobile.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, so I started another thread on that
here. It seems ATT won't let me go so easily... any ideas?
