I have a stupid question to ask: When I get my P800, can I just walk in to any AT&T store and ask for a SIM card? Do I have to bring the phone in? Can I install it myself?

I think they are 20. At least a replacement is 20. Not sure if you need a phone.

The AT&T store reps will need the unit itself because they will need the IMEI #. and some other info from the phone!

Do you have an account with AT&T?
If not, open one - or check with T-Mobile or Cingular. I recommend one of the small cell-phone shops that we have a lot in NY -- they will outfit you with a mid-range phone for free if you sign for service with AT&T or T-Mobile. After a while, you ask for the unlock code, and voila! - you got yourself a nice GSM phone on the side.

I think you can install it alone and don't need to bring your phone with you

Okay I talked with the local AT&T Wireless store. They said it was $25.00 for the SIM card, and I would have to activate my service at the same time (as they don't give out SIM cards to non-AT&T customers). I have a thought, if I obtained an M-Mode free phone from attws.com, could I use the SIM card from the free phone my P800 when it arrives?

It should not be a problem. They might have a deal that will give you a phone but then you have a spare.

Yup, that is probably the best way to go. I can't see paying $25.00 for the SIM card, when I can get it for free.

You can use any operators sim in your new phone. The operator locks the free phone that they give away with new activation so it can only be used with their sim. But their sim can be used with any unlocked phone.
