has anybody unlocked the P800? i just rang Orange who do it for a crazy fee, £20 plus the remainder of the contract which would work out at about almost £600 on the £55 a month tariff

hey all, im new to esato. im planning on getting the P800 on orange, but the darn thing is locked and has all that orange software on it. When i have the phone unlocked, i know that will enable me using other sim cards, but will Orange software still be there? if so how can i get rid of it? do i need to have the phone flashed or upgraded at SE service shop?
thank you in advance for future replies!

There is no orange software on the phone.
To deorange it, all you need do is the following:
Delete the startup and shutdown.mp4's in c:/sysdata (delete the ones in c:/system/data too if you want, but they don't actually do anything)
Remove the orange logo with nailvarnish remover/replace the flip cover with a new one without the logo
Unlock it - as above, MRC or Orange themselves
Take the orange sim out and put a different providers in - this removes the 'Welcome to Orange' message on startup, as it's actually on the SIM card.

I just bought it on the friday it was released from an Orange shop to get it as early as possible - you can now get better deals online, so i suggest you browse the internet retailers.

just been surfing on OneStop, and they look like they do some good deals. do you think they are reliable? ive heard some bad stories though. also, i know the orange logo is on the flip. is it also on the cover when you remove the flip?
if so...damn! thats gonna make things harder!

There is no logo on the flip & i heard bad stories about onestop but these were mainly issues about their not knowing when they would have P800's in stock. (none of the other dealers knew either)
I ordered my P800 from onestop and it arrived within the week.

@ beljim
ok so you successfully ordered from OneStop. which network, orange was it? i was planning on getting it with O2 or Voda, but they wouldnt allow me to change the tarrif after 4 months or at any time. they said i had to stick to the same tarrif for the 12 months. so theres no orange logo on the flip for orange? tell me about your deal please...
