Actually, the

rep told me there will be A 1GB duo out by the end of 2003. Maybe rubbish, but he usually knows his stuff and it wouldn't be bad, would it? Full-length movies.....ahhhhhh

WooDee: any word on why there is a 128MB limit? The P800 uses a stongArm processor which is 32bit... so they have a 4GB address range...

I am not certain as to why there is a 128mb cap on memory. Firmware issue perhaps? Who knows.
BTW:
www.doml.com.sg is expecting to have the 128mb Duo's in stock on the 22nd of March for $119 USD.

The 128MB limit has nothing to do with the P800's processor; it is an architectural limit of the Memory Stick itself, I'm afraid. The maximum size of *any* Memory Stick you will ever see is 128MB, due to complete shortsightedness on Sony's part when they were designing the product.
The more observant (and argumentative) among you will be quick to flame, er, that is point out that there is, in fact a 256MB Memory Stick on the market. Trouble with this product is it is not in fact a standard Stick, but (depending on the manufacturer) uses either several switchable 128MB banks, or a 128MB "compatibility" bank plus a second extended bank of either 128MB, 384MB, or 896MB. (The last two are speculation, based on Sony Stick Specs...)
The Duo is, unfortunately, based on the standard Memory Stick Spec...
Looking forward to my US P800 if SonyEricsson EVER GETS AROUND TO SHIPPING THE DAMN THINGS, but cringing about the proprietary Sony technology attached to this otherwise wonderful device. (Ever hear of SD, Sony???)

So... if the memory stick can have a 2nd bank larger than 128MB is it not possible that the P800 IS capable of using this 2nd bank? Sony's Japanese website is listing 1GB memory sticks on Mar 21 (of this year) and 1GB memory stick DUOs by the end of the year...
Can the bank be switched programmatically or is it a physical switch (similar to the write lock switch on the DUOs)?

You can still get a full length movie on a 128MB stick though... I have on my 64MB DUO a full Buffy episode(41,3MB, 42min long) and the full version of Doom(13,2MB).

The 1G unit is a MemoryStick PRO, which is basically a set of regular memorysticks with a small switch between them...
