someone posted a really good reply on this once.... i'll try find it for you
edit:
i can't find it. it's something to do with an animation lasting a certain amount of frames and the phone recognises this and after a certain amount of frames it switches to the clock. if you edit the screensaver to be less than that amount of frames and loop it before that amount then it will last for longer.
can anyone write that up a bit better and fill in on the bits i've got wrong??

just get a screensaver that lasts longer. some people here on esato can make screensaver like the christina aquilera screensaver. it was a succes but the longer the bigger. the bigger the less memory you have.

You can't make screensaver last a little longer, but you can "block" it - it'll last until u turn it off. Unfortunately backlight will remain on also and drastically reduce operating time. It's something like Jellyellie wrote, except you can't loop it. I've got one scrsvr like that. If u want it, PM me

just make a very very long animated gif then set it as your screensaver.
