please don't kill me if this has been asked, i tried to search for this topic but didn't get a hit..

i'm interested in buying this phone, but from my limited knowledge of it, there are two versions out there? one was a pre-release developer version? and now the retail version is out (i'm in the US, California)? how can i tell a P800's version if it's handed to me, in person, for inspection, if it is not charged up. (they would open the box and just let me check the phone out since they want to keep it's 'new' condition).

I am in a similar situation..... would any of the p800 users please help!!! I think the final retail versions can be distinguished from the firmware version by some sort of pattern or characters in the serial number......
