I felt like i wanted to post this.

As a few people on this forum will know, appforge mobilevb 3.5 was released on the friday the 14th.

Being an already established software developer (commercial game developer) i was keen to download this suite that would allow me to create "usful" applications for my phone.

I have never touched java to be honest, i have had no reason too. But i have used VB to create frontends for editors, etc. I have excellent knowledge of vb (if i do say so myself).

I downloaded the appforge sdk in the hope i could give the users of this forum, and the P800 users overall, applications that are :

A) Completely Free
B) Really usful
C) Unique

Their is already a large amount apps written using appforge for the P800, but to be honest, nothing really that usful nor worth the money people are asking for (i mean a full screen photo browser at $15!).

The first thing that came to mind was looking at other mobile devices, such as the Orange SPV which has an excellent MSN Messenger client.

I had already written an article on the MSN Protocal and wrote a clone MSN Messenger for the PC that worked suprisingly well. I decided it was time to do a really good MSN Messenger client for the P800.

I was aware of the licensing problems with appforge, and sorry to say folks, i love my phone and enjoy developing applications, but i simply cannot afford to pay the massive license fee's they are asking for. This really did make me sad, because i really want to develop usful p800 applications but release them for free...

I have now found out if i did release any applications publically using the evaluation version, they would only work for 2 days. Its not that i dont have the cash available, but i dont plan on making money off mobile applications like this. I mean an MSN Messenger client is free on the pc, it should be on the mobile device also...

I am aware of tipme client, but i am having problems with this, and to be honest, i want a perfect clone of the PC messenger on my phone. I had it partly working on the PC using appforge within the IDE. It was retriving the contacts and i could send and recieve messages, just a case of adding to this, but i will never be able to release this !!

It truelly does suck. I tried emailing them and asking if they would even consider releasing a "lite" version, but they refuse to answer...

Its a shame that we live in so much a business orientated world ! i say bring on the geeks

quick sheet has been to esato for quite some time
BUT
I've had problems with it using trivial algebric and date formulas. Far from usable for me. However, I'm not too worried as I consider phone as a last resort computing alternative
