> P800 interfering with PDQ machine

A weird thing happened to me yesterday @ work i was standing next to the till and trying to connect to tipicME and this is what happened. I clicked connect which then opened up all the messaging clients which are icq and msn, i then saw that msn was not connected so i went into the configuration part that letss your enter your username and passowrd on doing so i clicked continue on the most weirdest thing happened, my p800 was right next to the PDQ machine (its a machine you use to swipe credit cards for transactions in shops etc) and the pdq machine flashed a messaging saying RE-ENTER CARD NUMBER so firstly i thought the machine had just lost it so i just clicked on cancell and it went back to its idle state.
Now MSN did not connect so i tried it again and it did the same thing same message so this time i enetered a number in my p800 under the password section that was 00001122 and i clciked continue on TIPICME & THEN the PDQ MACHINE FLASHED A MESSAGE saying wrong card type re-enter card number............
Know i didnt want to conitnue as i was worried i might loose transactions for the day, but does anyone now what caused the interference??? I was connected using ORANGE'S GPRS......
So this must mean Airlines are telling the truth when they say switch your mobile phones off due to interference ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh man scary.........and another thing why do they say switch your phone off @ petrol stations when filling up.

This is not unusual. It is just the signaI from the phone connecting to the network interffering with the PDQ machine. Similar thing happens if you put your phone near a screen and receive a call, the screen will flicker!

i know that but what i dont understand is how it will manage to transfer the data as in numbers to the pdq machine i will try it tomorrow when i am back @ work with a proper card number and see if it can do it!!!!

In planes, it seems only older equipment is affected, but some of this is still used in current planes.
In hopsitals again, it tends to be older equipment affected, mainly ECG monitors. There's growing support to remove restrictions:

All electronic equipment(Except certified ex equipment) is dangerous around areas with a risk of explosions. Like gas stations. With the right mixture of air and petrol gas it doesn't take much energy to set of an explosion...

Yeah, like starter motors, headlights, car radios etc - make sure you don't use those on the forecourt, highly dangerous.
