I just put my remote control for my lights in front of the camera and pressed the button and the camera picks up the infra red light!

yeah but that also means that if you have an infrared lamp e.g. one that attaches to the bottom of the phone, you could have NightShot photos!!!

Um... yes. Actually, all CMOS and CCD devices that I've ever heard of (or, better put, I have yet to hear of an exception to this rule) are sensitive to infrared. This is how "nightshot" works, how security cameras see in the dark, and yes, even how nightvision cameras see in 100% darkness.
Adding an ultra-bright IR LED to the accessory port would be fairly easy; focusing it correctly for various shot ranges would be significantly more difficult.
