> Connecting P800 over serial on Win NT
Bookmark topic
After being stung with my USB only PocketPC I was concerned that the non-USB-supporting Windows NT wouldn't support the P800 I wanted to buy. I then read on a review that the P800 syncs with serial over USB - maybe the cable I use with my T68 might work? Checked with SE and was told it would and bought the phone.
Maybe the cable does work - but the software certainly doesn't.
Could anybody offer any advice on how I can sync Outlook on NT with a p800 - anything considered...

Right - I'm having a go at hacking the SE software about a bit. Unzip the original setup.exe and you get the installshield .cab, .exe and .ini. Swapped the exe for one from a program that does install on NT and it still fails to install. Got ISCab program (don't ask from where) and looking in .hdr for anything I might be able to alter. Anybody have a clue what I'm doing? (I don't).

What's the problem, the installation?

Well that's the first one. I've got it all installed on my XP machine at home and it does give you the option of using a serial link. Installshield just detects I'm using NT at work and stops without giving me a chance to try it. All I want to do is what I could do before with my t68i - sync outlook. Bah!

It ain't gonna happen dude.
At least... not until they release newer Sync software that may work with NT... and I doubt this is coming.
Unfortunately pulling apart the installer and trying to force it to install will be about as effective as copying over the program files directory from your XP machine and trying to do it that way.
I don't think you'll get any comeback from SE either, as the p800 should work as a cable modem in NT and so there is (allbeit limited) functionality.
Persuade work you need an upgrade, or secretly dual boot it
