> HBH-30 deteriorating sound quality

I have had an HBH-30 (with T68i) for a couple of months now, and recently the reception sound quality (in the headset) has deteriorated. The voice quality is sort of "crackly", and it seems to be worst when I initiate a call from the headset using voice commands. Range is not the problem, as I get the same result even when I put the phone right next to the headset. I have tried doing a partial master reset (settings only) but not the full master reset.
Has anyone else had this experience? Any solution, or do I likely have a faulty headset?
