Hello Forum!
i`ve read all posts last night about the gprs connection thru mobile on laptop...and need a bit of help!
After i`ve spent 4 hours last nite trying setup connection i`ve decided to call O2 customer care (50p/m). I`m currently on Genie Pay-as-you-go with free WAP and GPRS+ 300text messages p/month.
The answer was easy and upsetting... i cannot connect to GPRS for internet access...wap only on Pay-as-you-go. But O2 customers on contract can do that( monthly payment)
So the question goes to the contract O2 customers:
Can you please type here or send me by E-Mail (asskicker@btinternet.com) settings for internet connection? Everything is possible nowadays and the connection might work (due to cock-up on O2) for Pay-as-you-go customers as well...
I`ll be very thanlfull for details!
Thank you in advance- Respect!
P.S- i know that theres many Genie users out there..so if the settings will work it will be great help for them also

You are able to get the o2 setting from their website. There is a link at the bottom of the lefthand side of the page. This message was posted from a T68i

@o44wen: you cannot download the data APN from their website (unless they changed it v.recently.)
@asskicker: why didn't you ask O2 when you were on the phone to them? I have been after the data APN for weeks now and nobody seems to know what it is.

Regards,

Phil.

EDIT: if they told you that PAYG customers cannot use the data APN why do you think that you can?

There`s always a chance that it might work, like it does with plenty of other things!
It`s not only about APN! the username and password needed also..if i`d asked her on the phone it would be obvyous what i`m trying to do, therefore the account details wont be given
The settings on O2 website is for wap ONLY! not for the internet..
Hope ur questions are answered and i`m still waiting for details... someone-please......

ok,

They have updated thier site for more downloadale APNs. I got hold of the contract APN and it wouldn't allow me to connect.
Usernames and passwords are generic - would be a nightmare to give every user their own username and password.
All in all - looks like it cant be done.

Regards,

Phil.

Just to confirm - those usernames are specific to their APNs.
i.e. the payandgo username is only for use with the payandgo.o2.co.uk APN. the mobile username is for use with the mobile.o2.co.uk APN.

You can try the different APNs here.

Phil.

I have a contract SIM and pay&go SIM, what you said above, thats what happens when i use my pay&go card with my contract GPRS settings.

o2 must know when you connect that you are pay&go.

what you are trying to do cannot be done.

Get a contract! o2online have great deals
