I work in a mobile phone shop, and we have a demo 3G phone in the shop.

I was playing around with it, and I noticed that the videos are all encoded in MP4 format, same as my P800.

Since people with 3G phones will be able to record video messages, then assuming they can send them to email addresses as well as other 3G phones, we should be able to recieve and playback those video messages on our P800s, right?

Yes, we can send videos to 3 users, 3 users can send videos to us.

mp4 is the video standard used in practically every mobile. Series 60 (7650, 3650, SX-1...) use it, UIQ obviously use it, and the nokia series 40 handsets will also use it, if they ever do get a video recorder application (i.e. for the 7250 & 6220).

It is the player in the phone that is decoding the video and not the OS. The video player in the P800 is supplied by PacketVideo. MP4 is the abbrevation for MPEG-4 which you can create with QuickTime 6, just make sure that the size do not exceed 176 x 144 (qcif) or other phones may not be able to view it, also make sure to keep that bandwidth down at a maximum of 200 kbs at 12.5 fps (frames per second) for best result.

Just out of interest,

Considering the Nokia 7650's Hantro video software records to MP4 format as well, has anyone actually tried to email a video sequence (which you can do from the 7650) to a P800 and see if it plays?

Would be worth a go I think.
