Why is this phone so slow when transfering files accross from the PC!?
I am sending the registered Doom Wad accross 12Mb and I have been trying for the best part of an hour now! - Due to having insufficient space etc blah blah.
I am using bluetooth but I know that there isn't much difference when using the usb.
I though bluetooth could transmit @ 1mbit/s and usb @ 12mbit/s this would in theory mean that my 12Mb file should take only 96s and 8s respectively - right!? It takes a damn sight longer than that! Where is the bottle neck in this equation?
Anyone else experience painfully slow transfer times of larger files?

Transfering MP3 is really slow, and as you mentions, both USB and bluetooth should be working faster than it does with my P800

it's indeed a tad slow, I suggest for big files to use a cardreader and afterwards insert MS card in your P800. For small files I think the speed is ok
After all, phones are not made to transfer 12MB in a flash, it's still a phone, not an iPaq

That is probably because the P800 system connector is in fact an serial port (same connector as all Ericsson phones since T28) not an USB port. So you have to expect serial port speeds and not USB speed.
Also bluetooth is 721kbit/s so you should expect a transfer rate somewhere around 50kbyte/s depending on range and interference in the 2.4GHz frequency band.

I knew it was alot slower than 50Kbyte/s so I just checked it.
I whacked a video from my computer accross to my phone which was 3.60Mb in size and timed it. It took 3min 34s which by my calculation is 16.8KB/s!!!!
If you prefer to work in bits that is 134Kbit/s so that suggests that it is faster than the normal serial 115Kbits.
What is going on? Why are the transfer rates sooooo slooooow!?
Has anyone else noticed this? I deleted the 12MB doom wad cos it didn't work. I have found out why and am transferring it accross again and it takes an age!
P.s. the sync software is also terrible it crashes my system, in fact every system I have tried it on when ever it feels like it.
Come on SE you may have made a nice phone but put a little thought and effort into getting it working with a pc properly!

Hello.
I have the same problem with slow download to my new K700i with USB DCU-11 cable. I attempt to download one mp-3 at 1 mb, it took about 1h! WHY? If it usually take that time it pointless to have a mp-3 function.
Could it be something wrong on the cable or my USB on the computer?

There's no point moaning about the speed of file transfers on the Pxxx, i don't think the phone can actually support writing data very quick at all, it probably has to be processed somehow, i doubt it's directly written to memory, must have some form of memory controller.
Best solution is to get a memory card reader, they have dedicated memory controllers and therefore are a hell of a lot quicker.
There's no way to speed up file transfers on the Pxxx, either like it or lump it!

Symbian has been known to be slow in data transfer. Hit the button, then go to be and in the morning it might be done.

Does your computer have USB2.0? Have you checked the options on the phone itself to make sure the cable connection is not set to an extremely slow speed?
They're the only things that spring to mind..

I use a Sony DSC camera as a make-shift card reader. Works a treat.
