I was just informed that ATT is offering GSM service in my area, however they claim that my T68 will not work on their system. This seems odd since when I purchased my phone it was not locked to any system. Does that mean when they give me a GSM card, I cannot use it with any GSM phone.

If this is the case, how do you unlock the phone or sim card from their network?

Thanks

Maybe what they mean is that any phone not issued by ATT will not be able to register in their network. So even when you have an "open" phone, once it tries to register itself in ATT's network, it will be rejected.

When ATT starts to roll out pre-paid (or pay as you go) then they don't have a choice, they have to "open" their network.

As of this time, nothing can be done on the phone. Here in the Philippines, that network feature is used to "block" stolen phones, even if the phone is unlocked.

harleydog:

you can give this a shot, not a 100% it works but try it.

I know from personal experience on north american GSM, to unlock a sim card you press the following numbers when a message of PUK code appears or something like that:
you key in the following numbers:
77055231.
then it will ask u for a lock code
press: 1234
give it a shot.....

Hi, I have a question for "dondori" - I have a locked At&t t68 and I currently don't have their service in the area. The phone was an accidental gift. Is there any way I can unlock the phone instead of sim card?

Please let me know thanks!
Eug.

To unlock a phone you usually require a datacable or a link to a laptop/pc. I believe that it quite different to unlock different models of phones as you need the specific software. You can usually get your phone unlocked at some place for around 10$, but I don't know about USA... On internet there is actual software you can buy to do it yourself. A locked phone means that it is locked to one network, but if yours is unlocked as you say, then it should work with all networks

What you could do is, find someone with a ATT card and insert it into your phone and see what happens

Ok...I am a dumb American. How do I first go in to the T68 to unlock AT&T's grip on my phone? I am traveling soon and want to bring the phone with me to get a SIM card in Europe. Please help by giving me the "unlock phone for dummies" step by step instructions. Many thanks!
