Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. Tried search, but couldn't find anything. I have a T68i and am on a Vodafone contract in the UK. Can I use my phone in Los Angeles? The Vodafone site mentions that I need to have a 'Nextel compatibile phone', but doesn't say if the T68i is. I know the T68i is used in the US, so I assume it's just whether Vodafone have a roaming agreement. Any help would be appreciated.

Your t68i is a triband phone, which means it will work in parts of America where there is GSM 900 coverage. What with LA being a big city I would assume that there will be GSM900 coverage.

Nextel is a different kind of network that does not run on the GSM standard, iirc it runs on iDEN, which the t68i doesn't support.

You may want to consider hiring an iDEN phone (unless anyone can clarify whether there is GSM900 coverage in LA) for your trip. The company o2 recommends is called Motek, you can see their site at http://www.motek.co.uk .

ATTWS, T-Mobile and another one run gsm1900. Check with vodafone. Think they may have roaming agreement with one of the gsm carriers. This message was posted from a T68i

I thought most of the GSM coverage in the U.S. specially the westside uses the 1900 bandwidth- whereas dual band usually is 900 and 1800 This message was posted from a T68i

Just get a used T-mobile pre-paid SIM card by one of the local cell phone dealers and plug it in. By far the easiest and the cheapest way to get by.

Make sure your phone is unlocked.
