Although I'm quite happy with the BMW Bluetooth kit, some people are advising that the voice quality (MY voice) isn't great. I've recorded a few messages using the BMW BT, and it's mediocre at best.

How have others found the quality to be?

Thanks.

By the way, there are two possible positions in the roof (near sunroof control) where the mic can be placed. I have tried both, with mixed results.

Have you thought about complaining to BMW about it?

Is it too quiet?

Perhaps they have a way of boosting the gain on the mike?

Yes, BMW (NA) is looking into it, but it's all new to them since Bluetooth isn't yet in the U.S. The dealers haven't received any training. My car is the first in the States to have Bluetooth.

Thanks.

Does the quality deteiorate as you drive on highway? In other words, is it mediocre all the time, or only when the wind noise is present? In latter case, you may try to insulate your microphone by wrapping the part of it facing the roof in foam. It helps, but still does not eliminate wind noise background quite completely.

No, it doesn't really seem to change. Good idea though. I will post what BMW NA says when I hear from them.

Brief update... microphone seems ok. It seems that T-Mobile is having dreadful tower problems in the New York area. That was enough to kill the quality.

In areas where reception is decent, my callers report that the mic quality is fine.

Cheers.

Oh. So the voice quality would be just as bad if you spoke directly into the handset?
