When I tried to sync over Bluetooth or Infra Red, for some reason, some of my contacts in Outlook just wouldn't sync. I tried doing master resets on the phone (a couple of times) but to no avail. I didn't have a lot of contacts; only about 200+ entries.

Anyway, I just figured out why I couldn't sync properly with Outlook earlier when I was using my USB BT or IR.

Apparently, the Phone Sync Manager will only do a PROPER complete sync when Outlook is OFFLINE!

This is probably because my Outlook is connected to an Exchange Server (rather than a local copy).

Not sure if this is an issue for others.

I too use Outlook on Exchange Server. I have to exit Outlook entirely when syncing, else it hangs at the end.

I have 233 contacts on my PC, and when it syncs, the phone has 167. It just ignores 28% of my contacts. I tried uninstalling & reinstalling (1.3.1) and with similar results, though it ignores different contacts now. I tried a Full Sync: same result.

SE support is useless: they claim a limit of 1000 contacts. I cant find a log file anywhere to help me determine what is special about 28% of my contacts so they dont sync. I am close to installing the SDK and trying to write my own frigging sync software.

Don't just exit Outlook.

Make sure you yank out yr network cable too (or disable yr WLAN radio)

That way, during synch, you will be prompted to retry or work offline.

Choose the latter

All mine seem to replicate okay, while I'm on-line and still in Outlook on my laptop. Normal sync and full sync work okay and I have over 300 contacts.

However, recently, my infrared sync stopped working!! Reinstalled the s/w, but still not working. Works via USB and infrared sees the phone and I can send stuff to it. But I cannot browse it and cannot sync to it.

Any ideas?

I have now owned my P800 for around 9 months and am about to trash it as it has wasted so much of my time...

. it can't sync my contacts reliably (sometimes it does add new contacts I have input to the PC to the phone; sometimes it doesn't add new contacts, you just never know!), maybe a couple of thousand names. My Palm could do this 5 years ago.
. syncs take 5 minutes plus (or forever when it hangs my machine...)
. syncs abort when you get bored and use fast user switching to a different user
. Bluetooth pairing doesn't seem to work - I have to manually input code numbers into the phone every connection (am I doing something wrong? - I have followed the instructions to the letter and tried setting it up several times)
. when I've done a couple of syncs, I then have to log out as my 1.5Gb RAM XP Professional system is "out of resources" (!! - how can this be? - even Photoshop/Premiere Pro doesn't do this!)
. re-installing latest sync software screws up my set-up...
. etc

I have found the Sony Ericsson Windows XP software (i've tried lots of versions, including the most recent) by far the worst ever Windows XP software I have ever used - buggy, inconsistent, poorly documented - it is like an early test version, not a release to the public...

The 'phone software is not great (how can you edit a phone number from the call list? e.g. to add an international prefix - I have not found a way. How can you copy a phone number from the call list to an existing contact e.g. when your friend calls you from his home phone - again, I have not found a way) but is bearable so long as you keep a pencil and paper close by and don't want to SMS much...

Still the music videos are fun and the guys on this forum are great! It's a shame that the phone doesn't live up to them! (and it sounds to me like the P900 has not fixed any of the main issues...)
