I had call to perform a restore on my P800 today (accidently synced with a blank address book, duh) and had problems with trying to restore a backup, as it failed around 60% through (during the "checking files on phone" stage).
After several failed attempts I did a master reset on the phone (from the control panel) and then attempted a backup. Worked first time with no problems.
Hopefully this may be of some help to at least on other person having restore problems.
This was with 1.3.1 BTW
