Hi,
I only just found out about the Orange Access Pack from another thread on this forum. I understand that it is free for 3 months if requested before end of April and that you may use it for GPRS access (fair usage of around 10MB/month?). The Orange website states it can be used for Orange Wap and Entertainment services. So a bit confused whether this just means the orange wap site and services - or means any wap sites only - or any GPRS access whether that be WAP, HTML pages thru Opera, or reading POP3 email. If this is the latter case then this is a really good service Orange are providing.
Has anyone been charged for browsing web pages over GPRS?
Bit pee'ed off that Orange didnt mention this service when I asked to upgrage my GPRS Bundle 1 to Bundle 2 which is £4 for 2MB/month. I did 2MB within 2 days when i first got the phone. Will cancel the Bundle service.

I contacted Orange and they said it was their own sites only.
I look at the Esato wap site nearly everyday and chose Orange GPRS WAP as my profile.
But when I look in my GPRS data log its all taken out or Orange GPRS and not WAP GPRS.
When I got my phone bill I was disgusted to hear it was 160.00

I went into this in a lot of detail in an earlier thread & managed to get my GPRS refunded.
This is the situation as I have been told & many discussions with various departments at orange but definitive answer from the wires free data department.
The Orange phone comes pre-configured with Orange GPRS Internet & Orange GPRS WAP.
The access pack is for connections that only use the GPRS WAP.
Now I have found that Opera will not work with the GPRS WAP profile wheras the internal browser does.
You can access all WAP sites and for some reason some WEB type sites with the Orange GPRS WAP. I even double checked if I would be charged when I viewed WEB sites over the WAP connection which at first Orange couldn't answer & didn't know how I could get some WEB sites with the WAP connection but they ensured me that any data I sent or recieved over the Orange WAP profile would be part of the access pack.
I have already had one bill which showed my WAP access at 6MB free with the GPRS Internet at ~ £45 (got this refunded).
I expressed my concern that all this was very confusing at than many people could run up large bills without knowing it.
As a final note, you can only get your POP mail using the GPRS internet profile but this is very controllable especially if you set to download headers only then just read the mail your urgent to read.

Other useful tip is to set the option to display a connection dialogue for you to confirm the choice of connection before connecting.

One tip I got on this is. You must cancel the account when the 3 months is up or Orange will start charging you for it.

Orange do have a GPRS service which is pay as you use @ £3 per meg. Still not cheap enough but at least you can switch the GPRS log on and keep a track of how much youv'e used. Thier billing for GPRS starts at the 1st of each month I believe.

As I understand it any data transfered via the 'orangewap' APN (which is what the pre-configured Orange GPRS Wap connection uses) will come out of your access pack allowance (10mb) assuming you subscribe to it of course. I have been able to view quite a few proper html websites using the Orange WAP connection and the built in browser on the P800, however as was already stated the WAP account won't work for checking POP3 e-mail or with Opera (why?) - for that you need to use the Orange GPRS connection which transfers data via the 'orangeinternet' APN which is charged at £3 a meg unless you subscribe to a GPRS bundle.

benw: I think you are correct in your last post there, altho I have talked to Orange today to somebody that didn't really have a clue, she went off and asked someone else about HTML/web browsing and pop3 email access and said yes they would be covered under the access pack, but she didnt say I should be using Orange GPRS WAP for it.
Think I may continue to use Orange GPRS GPRS and when bill comes in complain that it was not made clear to me that I should have been using Orange GPRS WAP.
