I've taken quite a bit of flak from other posters who have mailed me offline about my "vendetta" against the P800 (Only you know who you are!)

Yesterday the shop that sold me the previous two (Swisscom in Globus Zurich), gave me a third. The first two would'nt restore backups, despite numerous attempts that i listed in other posts.

From the start this one looked more promising - it even seemed better built than the first two (or is that my psychological need to keep justifying it to myself?)

However I WAS disappointed that having got phones 1 and 2 upgraded to the latest software, number 3 was still running R1F01 (instead of R1G05) and R2A01 (instead of R2A04).

BUT, NO MATTER - IT RESTORED MY BACKUP ! Fantastic! I love my P800 again

Until......

!0 minutes ago the phone rang - I answered. Screen went white. Nobody at the other end (Seemingly).

It then hung, displayed the message

"Program Messages

Reason Code ViewSrv

Reason Number 11..."

Then it froze.

Uuuuhhhh!

This cannot be right - it's like buying three porsches - the first two won't start and the third can't turn left.

Now can you justify those profane comments to my private email in defense of this product.

I am going back for my 4th - wish me luck!

Hmmm.. I cannot believe all the problems you're having. I've had my P800 for almost four months now without experiencing a single one of the problems you've been so keen to share with us all.. (and it's still running the first commercial software, R1b)

Hi Raven

I assure you the problems are real and I am not "keen" to share them with anyone. I am keen however to get a phone that works..

I am not giving up on the P800 since it is an amazing concept, but until I can get proper reliable use out of one I can only remain a seriously disappointed customer of SE.

My wife's T68i however hasn't missed a beat in 8 months so she's a delighted SE customer. Horses for courses....

Ok, Mike, better luck with the next one then...

Just a couple of questions;
1) Is your phone memory filled up?
2) Do you close the apps after you've used them/when they're not in use?
3) Do you have many 3'rd party programs/beta software installed?

-(regarding the error you mentioned)

Raven

The phone has no apps on it apart from the standard ones.

I had installed apps onto the 1st phone but being aware how buggy some shareware products can be I had removed them all by phone 2.

The memory shows 5.2MB available, the duo is completely empty.

Regards

Mike

Pretty bad luck!
Just don't be too quick to return it, try to upgrade it first because this sure sounds like a software problem.

Thanks Universal Exports.

I agree, but so far I have dutifully taken delivery of 3 phones, all needing an immediate upgrade

The first two went back to SE "upgraded" by me at my expense (ie the latest versions of the software being burnt into them (R1D, R2C, R1G05, R2A04) at the serivce centre and me down CHF 120 on taxi fares for dropping and collection (the P800 burn is 90 mins and I could'nt wait around).

Maybe SE should be paying me?

The third one is (probably) about to go throught the same procedure but I fly to Madrid in the morning and need A phone. Hence the upgrade from R1F01 (organiser) to R1G05 will have to wait until next week.

I am delighted to get my old data back but the phone (not PC Suite) is now frustrating me in new ways.

Mike,
Sounds like software not hardware. Are you using PCsuite 1.3.1. The one on the CD provided causes untold syc and restore problems. The phone ring problem could be your sim, try check with another sim. All p800 have dedicated sim. When I got a replacement phone for touchscreen faliure, it came boxed and I had to have the new sim as well...Just a thought

sup mike, i feel ya buddy!
i too am on number 2 at the moment, and will probably go onto number 3 soon! first one had a faulty camera, and when i transfered them to PC there were tiny white spots in always the same spots. dead pixels or something. now my phone is pretty sound, except for the jog dial which is not that responsive when you press upwards....and for two tiny tiny dust specs underneath the screen! damn annoying! i just want a perfect phone for the money i pay! thats not too much to ask is it?!!?!?

Thanks guys.

I am using 1.3.1 but unlike my previous backup problems this one is phone based.
