I've got a P800 and am in the UK on Vodafone contract. I can't for the life of me get my email to work. I can get the standard internet to run (actual web pages not just WAP) but for some reason i cant access any pop mail accounts (send or recieve) - keeps saying "connecting to...."
Another problem i have is that browsers like Opera also dont work - i have no idea y! If the standard browser works fine then y cant Opera run using exactly the same connection??!
Other apps like jMSN dont work either - it seems as if "third party" - ish apps (e.g. email, opera and other java apps) cant use the GPRS connection.
I have a dialup WAP connection also which does exactly the same - connects only for the standard browser not for anyhting else!
Ive looked about and seen things about changing the APN - i tried that and the GPRS just doesnt connect.
I dont kno if this is my tariff - its a 200mins Xnet anytime - 100 free txts - not sure which GPRS package.
Well fed up now..........
HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I have the settings and they work A1.
In Control panel, Connections then Messaging Accounts, Click New.
In the Basic tab put any name for the Account name and your name for the name. Then your usual email address, ie ******@btinternet.com.
Connection Type is POP3
Internet Account is Preferred
In the INBOX tab, your email user name for you ISP, and your password.
Incoming Server is your usual server ie mail.btinternet.com
Downloads is set to No restrictions
IN the OUTBOX tab, the server HAS to be mail.vizzavi.co.uk and that it. Leave the SMTP bos UN ticked.
Thats it.
For info the software on my phone is Phone CXC162002 R1D
Bluetooth CXC12529 R2C
Organiser CXC1622001 R1G05
CDA CDA162001/5 R2A04

Ive now managed to get email and opera etc to work! They were related as i assumed. I'm not quite sure what i did but i called up vodafone customer services to enquire about the GRPS tariff i was on and to see if he could assist with the problem
BTW - to avoid going thru eight thousand departments b4 u get to the right one this is the number to the ppl who at least kno 'something'! - 08701504566
The guy said i was using the right settings:
i.e. APN (labelled 'address' in the P800 connection settings) set to: internet
user: web
password: web
connection type: GPRS
all other settings remaining the same (default).
He then mumbled something about needing to have a dialup number of: *99#
i couldnt find a text field in which to enter this so i tried creating a dialup account with that as the number (ie just *99#) - but this did nothing - errors came up and the connection was dropped.
I then tried just dialling this number - and i just got cut off.
The guy also said something about me being on a higher price gprs tariff than i needed so he changed it to the lower one (from £7.50 / MB to £2.50 / MB - such a rip off!) but he said it would take at least 24hrs to take effect.
After trying out all this stuff i created a new connection with the actual name: internet
as well as the APN (address): internet
and all the other settings the same.
AND.... It suddenly worked!!
Email, opera etc etc!
So...
It cudve been:
- the guy changing my tariff (tho he sed at least 24hrs)
- dialling the *99# number in some way
- or changing the name of the gprs connection to 'internet'
but upon changing the connection name to something else (eg 'wales' - yes i am Welsh) it still works!!
Confused ???? - me too!
so try all this b4 phoning customer services:
connection type - GPRS
make the actual name of the connection 'internet' (lowercase)
check the tick box to activate the username and password fields then enter
username: web
password: web
address: internet
now try dialling *99# as if calling a number
now try using the connection
If this seems to work 4u let me kno!!!!
if all else fails call the operator on the number above and see what they can do!

I tried the above to access my email in my .mac account but it timed out.
I dont understand this bit in your message above
The guy said i was using the right settings:
i.e. APN (labelled 'address' in the P800 connection settings) set to: internet
user: web
password: web
connection type: GPRS
all other settings remaining the same (default).
Thanks for any help

Can someone put this in the FAQ please?
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=21559&forum=14#post287913
It has been coverred loads of times before now... if you have the wap.vizzavi.co.uk apn you simply won't get it to work.
Putting 'wales' in the apn most likely worked because you didn't disconnect reconnect the gprs account.
And yes, you create a simple dialup with the number *99# to create a PC gprs connection.

OK... sorry if my post sounds confusing.
This is what i did...
- Go to Control panel in ur phone
- Click the connections tab at the bottom of the window (middle tab)
- Click INTERNET ACCOUNTS
- Click on NEW
- Type (or write!) in the name: internet
- Connection type should already be: GPRS - if not make it GPRS
- Now press the ADVANCED button
- In the "address" text box type: internet
- Now tick the box at the top of this window "username and password required"
- In the USERNAME field type: web
- In the password field type: web - should turn to *** when done
- Leave all other settings the same and press DONE
that should be it for the connection!
- now press DONE again on the window which should now show ur connection called 'internet'.
- now, still in the connections tab, click MESSAGING ACCOUNTS
- Click NEW
- Type the account name u want to call ur email account (eg 'my email box')
- Type YOUR NAME in the box below it
- Enter your email address in the box below that
- Set the connectipn type to either POP3 or IMAP (usually POP3 but some accounts only support IMAP)
- Set the INTERNET ACCESS to your newly created connection: internet
- Now press the inbox tab at the bottom and type in your username and password and the incomming server address - (eg: pop.wherever.com or mail.whatever.net)
- Now click the outbox tab
- type in the outgoing server name here (eg: smtp.wherever.com or mail.whatever.net)
- tick the SMTP authenticate box if ur server requires this (BTW they usually do!)
- if the username and password are different form the inbox mail (btw - they usually are not) type them in here else check the 'same as inbox checkbox.
- Now click the DONE button
- and the DONE button again in the window which should now display ur new email account
thats it - ur email account should now be in ur messages section.
Now if this doesnt already work try dialling *99# (im not sure y!!) from ur handset as if making a call.
If all this fails u will need to contact the technical ppl at vodafone on the number i posted earlier.
Hope this helps!!
