I'm interested in uprgrading a P800 too. The only place that I have found that does this is
http://www.gsmphonesource.com/
They are located in Las Vegas and upgrade firmware, however I haven't tried this. I was hoping to find somewhere to upgrade in or around the Boston area, any idea?

There is one guy in Pittsburgh, PA. I have sent my T68 and my P800 for upgrades and always been very happy with the service he provides.
Turn over is extremely fast if you are willing to pay for overnight shipping.
You can send him an email at

What about official one. I bought phone from SE directly. And i want them to take full responsibility. + they should do it 4 free. But in SE.USA work like only morans. They dont know what a firmware is.
Shit if i would work for some company like SE i would go to forum atleast once a week to have slight idea how can i help people.

Is the upgrade necessary? How much does it cost?

I called Sony-Ericsson today, and they said that the firmware updates are not available for the US Market, and will not be for some time. The only approved service center is in Minnesota, so we'll have to mail it there (and be without our phones!) when the update is available. When I go to Europe in the fall, maybe I'll try to have it upgraded then...I bet SE will take their sweet time making this available in the US.
