I'm currently developing a piece of software which will (hopefully) allow you to monitor how many of your mins/sms/data you have left each month and how much you have spent over your free allowance.

I will try to post questions on this board regarding the software functionality so that I can get a feel for what the potential users would like to see in this software, and hopefully this will result in something that will be useful for as many people as possible.

As such, I already have a question...

I'm currently attempting to model a generic Tariff object which store details of the call/sms/data allowances and also the call types that will come out of these allowances. (I am planning to have this stored in a config file so that these can be freely released and users will be able to input their tariff details and post them for others).

Seeing as the networks like to screw us over by charging different rates for calls to other networks, the program will need some knowledge of which numbers you call are on your own network. I pretty sure that this information is not available to the phone when you make calls, so unfortunately this info will have to be stored locally per user. I have two approaches here that I want people's opinions on:

- Use one of the existing fields in the contact details already stored in the addressbook as a network flag - something like Fax(H). Obviously if you wanted to store someone's home fax no then you would not also be able to store their network.

- Maintain a local list within the application storing all the numbers that are on the same network as the user, which would need to be maintained by adding numbers.

Both of these have their advantages and disadvantages, and it may be the case that I can implement both and the user can choose which method to use, but depending on feedback from here I may opt for one or the other. Any preferences or new suggestions for how to implement this would be appreciated.

Cheers everyone, and remember that the more feedback I get during the design phase, the better the end product will be!

Imho this will be quite complicated. One suggestion could be to let the user enter the min. and max. rate. In addition a percentage field to let your program know which rate is mostly used. On the other hand, the used min part won't be precise.

I recon that users in this forum should make a site just for the benifit of users of the P800 - MAINLY for the benifit of the users of this forum who contribute but also accessable to the public...

I can design a website fairly professional for free if someone decides to start a website... - after my exams

check out some stuff I did...

Sounds like a great idea, although at the moment I'm on a tariff beyond my needs because of wanting to get the phone cheap. I think the best option would be to have something stored within the contact itself, so you can be taking someone's details and say 'by the way, what network are you on?' But both options sounds sensible.
