Why dont SE let us update our SW via EmmaII on our own computers, its no harm to them, in fact it would save a lot of Service centres time to give ppl updates. EmmaII is publically accessable but we cant use much on there, personaly the isnt a SC near where i live in the UK and to dl off emmaII directly would save me a lot of time as well as a lot of other users. are SE just 2 thick to see that it would be easier for them 2? damn hardlock.

I guess its a support and warranty issue. Easier to control the different releases that way.

But hey! Its a mobil phone! It should be able to upgrade itself. Like the WAP setup can be sent via SMS, the software should be sent using WAP or something. No need of local computers etc... Maybe thats how it will be in the phones to come, at some point in the future.

plus releasing the software publically will allow for hacks and stuff... plus it will produce a million dead phones from people who do it wrong...

I talked to a developer I know at Ericsson about this. According to him the operators are afraid that people will hack the software and create havoc on GSM network and maybe hack the software to call for free. And that is one of the reason that they do not allow us to upgrade the phone by ourselves. This post was posted from a T68

If this was the case my friend, then the SL45 users would have hacked the software long time ago since they can upgrade through the net (unofficially)

Try to imagine how many people would damage their phones by trying to flash them on their computer... this would cause a mess for Ericsson and its image.

Sounds resonable ppcrockar. We all know that people have a tendensi to Hack stuff.
Allthow thay could kame it a reality.. simply by making that part of the phone controlling the main phone features Locked. and onley uppgradable by a service center. and a notehr part where you could make new menues.. and disable featues you dont really what etc..
Personaly i think that would be nice..
