A friend is travelling to New York next Friday and wants to know what he needs to be able to use electrical appliances in the USA. Over here the electricity system is 230 volts and I think the USA is 110 volts. The sockets here have three pins.
Thanks

I think your friend will need a transformer and also a pin adaptor to convert it to 2 pin.

3 pins is he bringing fridge? electronics have 2 pins and if he is bringing laptop or phone there is great chance converters are 110/220 at least SE ones are, so is my Fujitsu, all he needs then is little pin corverter from round to flat - 1-2$ in RadioShack

ta for the replies
potok: the British standard plug has three pins. The extra one is for earth..
So he just needs a transformer and converter for appliances that can only handle a set voltage.
